Prince William and Kate Middleton are supporting King Charles’ decision to cooperate with the investigation into ex-Prince Andrew following the former Duke of York’s arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

While William and Kate haven’t released their own statement on Andrew’s arrest, People reported that the Prince and Princess of Wales support Charles’ statement on his brother’s legal issues. “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities,” Charles’ statement released by Buckingham Palace read. “In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”

People also reported that William and Kate aren’t expected to release their own statement. Andrew was arrested on the morning of Thursday, February 19—his 66th birthday—on suspicion of misconduct in public office following allegations he shared confidential information with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein while acting as a trade envoy for the U.K.

News of William and Kate’s reaction to Andrew’s arrest comes after royal author Andrew Lownie claimed in his biography, The Rise and Fall of the Yorks , that William had “loathed” Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, for years long before Charles stripped his brother of his HRH and prince titles. “He [William] also loathes Sarah [Ferguson], Andrew’s ex-wife, and can’t wait for the day when his father throws them both out,” Lownie wrote in the book.

The book continued, “If Charles doesn’t, I guarantee you the first thing William does when he eventually becomes king is to get them evicted.”

Lownie also reported that William was “furious” when Andrew and Sarah attended the funeral of Katharine, Duchess of Kent, where he and Kate were also at. “William, meanwhile, was ‘furious’ at being ambushed in this way, according to friends. He has been at pains to distance himself from his uncle and not be photographed with him,” Lownie wrote. “He believes his father has not dealt with him with sufficient firmness and that Andrew — and Sarah Ferguson — have done much to undermine the good work of other members of the Royal Family.”
