The arrest of the former Prince Andrew has put the British royal family in a position where they have to respond, and not just that, they have to distance themselves from Andrew. A lot of them have been trying to do that already, despite the fact that the institution itself previously tried hard to protect him. But what about those closest to him, like his ex-wife Fergie and his daughters Beatrice and Eugenie?

A report from the Express indicates Beatrice and Eugenie are “broken” by the scandal and embarking on “different paths” after their father was arrested. Their mother has not been seen in public for months, and there are reports she could also face jail time.

Beatrice was seen horse riding with her father and her four-year-old daughter, Sienna, just last month. Eugenie, meanwhile, is reportedly “trying to create distance between herself and her parents.” Beatrice’s outing came before the latest batch of emails, which involved her father and mother.

Woman magazine Royal Editor Emily Andrews said that Beatrice and Eugenie are allegedly “aghast” at their mother’s emails to Epstein, and “appalled” and “embarrassed” by photos of their father and an unidentified woman. And she believes the two sisters will now look to “rebuild their brand” by separating themselves from their parents.

The fact that they’ve been able to keep their royal family connections is likely to help, Andrews speculated. Beatrice and Eugenie were part of the holiday celebrations at Sandringham with the rest of the royal family, unlike their parents.

Royal writer Andrew Lownie speculated that the two would now concentrate on their jobs outside of the royal family. Beatrice operates a tech advisory firm while Eugenie works for art gallery Hauser and Worth.

Lownie told Woman, per The Mirror: “They’ve both been doing a lot in the Middle East. I think that will go on hold,” and added, “The only way they can act now is never be photographed with their parents, and try to distance themselves as much as possible.”

“It’s a difficult time for them. It’s deeply distressing and they must feel it desperately.”

However, a friend of the family reportedly told Hello! magazine: “The sisters are not abandoning their father. They aren’t turning their backs on him,” adding, “But everything is obviously very strained and hard.”

Neither Beatrice nor Eugenie has commented on the matter in public.

According to reports, not even King Charles was given a heads-up about Andrew’s arrest before it happened. Following the arrest, Charles released a statement about the matter that said, “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.”

He added, “In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”
