Eric Dane, known for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, died on Feb. 19, 2026. He was 53.

“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” his family told People in a statement. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”

Dane revealed in April 2025 that he’d been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS. Since his diagnosis, he shared constant updates about his health. “I feel great when I’m at work,” he told E! News in June 2025. “Of course, there have been some sort of setbacks, but I feel pretty good. My spirit is always pretty buoyant, so at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.”

What was Eric Dane’s net worth?

Eric Dane’s net worth was reportedly $7 million at the time of his death, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

What was Eric Dane’s Grey’s Anatomy salary?

While Eric Dane’s Grey’s Anatomy salary hasn’t been publicly revealed, the actor admitted that his role was becoming “too expensive” for the network and led to him being let go in 2012. “I was starting to become — as most of these actors who have spent significant time on the show — you start to become very expensive for the network,” he claimed on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. “And the network knows that the show is going to do what it’s going to do irrespective of who they keep on it—as long as they have their Grey they were fine.”

He continued: “I wasn’t the same guy they had hired, so I had understood when I was let go and [show creator] Shonda [Rhimes] was really great.”

Host Dax Shepard discussed how the actor was “struggling” with drug and alcohol addiction at that point of his life, Dane responded, “I was struggling. They didn’t let me go because of that, although it definitely didn’t help.”

Who will inherit Eric Dane’s money?

According to celebrity divorce lawyer Monica Mazzei, it’s likely that his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, will inherit his estate after his death. “If their marital status is active at Eric’s death, Rebecca, as his surviving spouse, would inherit his share of community property with a ‘step up in basis’ for tax purposes, offering a significant tax advantage upon the sale of those assets,” Mazzei told Ok! Magazine.

The couple married in 2004 and were separated from 2016 to 2025, when Gayheart filed for divorce. She filed to dismiss the divorce petition in March 2025, remaining legally married, acting as a caretaker, and co-parenting their 2 daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14.

In an essay for The Cut published on Dec. 2025, the actress wrote about how her husband’s ALS diagnosis affected their family life. She said that her goal was to “take advantage of the time that [Dane] has right now” since “he made it very clear that he wants to spend time with his family as much as possible” during his health struggles.

Gayheart insisted she is “committed to facilitating that,” writing, “Eric knows that I am always going to want the best for him. That I’m going to do my best to do right by him. And I know he would do the same for me.

“So whatever I can do or however I can show up to make this journey better for him or easier for him, I want to do that,” she continued. “And I want to model that for my girls: ‘That’s what you do. That’s the right thing to do.’”
