The former Prince Andrew’s arrest is the kind of thing that is bound to have repercussions for the rest of the British royal family. Before it even happened, we saw King Charles and Prince William doing their best to distance themselves from Andrew, leaving those closest to him, his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, and his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, to figure out how to publicly manage their relationships.

For a while there, it felt like the entire family would have been happy if he just faded into obscurity in his new home in Sandringham, never to be seen in public events again. But his very public arrest and the continued investigation, plus the fact that his name has appeared multiple times on the Epstein Files, pretty much make that impossible. And that’s taking a toll on his daughters, in particular.

Sources told Woman’s’ Day, via The News, that this situation has even impacted Beatrice’s marriage. “Of course, this situation has impacted their marriage,” the source said. “Edo is completely ill-equipped to deal with the emotional yo-yo Beatrice is going through.” This a reference to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Beatrice’s husband.

The two married in 2020. They share two daughters, Sienna, 4, and Athena, 1. Mapelli Mozzi also has a 9-year-old son, Christopher Woolf, from a previous relationship.

“[Edo] didn’t want Beatrice to risk being seen in public with Andrew, but it was their final week in the Lodge and she always has been unable to say no to her father,” sources said about Beatrice being seen publicly with Andrew before he moved out of Royal Lodge.

“There wasn’t any argument or ultimatum, but Edo has his own family’s reputation to consider too and they will not want him associated with anyone involved with Epstein.”

All of this comes after reports that Andrew’s daughters are trying to put some distance between themselves and the scandal. According to People, “They’re trying to stay away from it. They have young children, and this is their grandfather — their focus is on protecting their own children from this.”

The two are reportedly also reevaluating their relationship with their father, with a source saying “they’re also putting pieces of the puzzle together in real time and realizing they may have been used.”

The Daily Mail reported that Beatrice and Eugenie “have been left in turmoil over their father’s arrest, with one of the girls thought to be with their mother.” Royal biographer Russell Myers also told CNN that the two were “deeply distressed.” He added that they “have a degree of loyalty,” but “it is without question that their relationships with their parents have been left severely strained by their conduct.”

Andrew was arrested on February 19 and was released after 11 hours in custody. He has not been cleared of wrongdoing and is right now under investigation, as confirmed by the Thames Valley Police in a statement that said that a “man in his sixties from Norfolk,” had “been released under investigation.” Andrew was photographed in a car, looking shocked, as he was being driven back to Wood Farm in Sandringham.
