So much of the drama, or at least the negative press, about the British royal family has involved Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the past few years. Even when the two stepped down as working royals, it seems like they got a lot of bad publicity every time they did or didn’t do something. And it’s not just bad publicity, it’s the fact that Harry had his security pulled, while Andrew continued to have one despite all his scandals.

All those things considered, it’s fair to wonder how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are feeling about Andrew’s arrest and the investigation into him. And Rob Shuter says, “They’re gloating,” according to one source. “They do feel validated. For years, they were painted as the problem.” But reports indicate they won’t make a public statement about it.

“Harry always said there were serious issues behind palace walls. The public is only now seeing how messy it really was,” another source added.

And for some, this proves them right in their decision to step back from the British royal family. “They were criticized for escaping,” a source explained. “Now people understand that leaving wasn’t impulsive — it was survival.”

Ironically, Prince Harry mentioned his uncle in his autobiography, Spare. As he discussed fears about losing their security, Harry wrote, “Also, not in the wake of my Uncle Andrew. He was embroiled in a shameful scandal, accused of the sexual assault of a young woman, and no one had so much as suggested that he lose his security. Whatever grievances people had against us, sex crimes weren’t on the list.”

He did lose his security. Andrew kept his.

“For Harry, this isn’t about revenge,” Shuter also reported. “It’s about fairness. He felt the rules were applied differently.”

Back when Harry and Meghan stepped away from the royal family, another quote made the rounds, one that wasn’t about Andrew, but that feels like it could apply to this particular case. “They were happy to lie to protect my brother, they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us,” Harry said in his Netflix documentary in reference to a press release that was put out after rumors that William had bullied Harry and Meghan out of the family were published.

Harry stated in the documentary that he wasn’t consulted about it.

Andrew was arrested on February 19 and released from police custody after 11 hours. He is right now under investigation, as confirmed by the Thames Valley Police in a statement that stated that a “man in his sixties from Norfolk,” had “been released under investigation.” Andrew was photographed in a car as he was being driven back to Wood Farm in Sandringham, looking extremely distraught.

King Charles released a statement after the arrest, which said, “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.”

He added, “In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”
