A lot has happened since the former Prince Andrew was arrested on February 19. He’s still under investigation, and there’s talk that he might be removed from the line of succession. King Charles and Prince William have distanced themselves from him. His daughters and even his ex-wife, Fergie, have not publicly supported him either. And there was even talk that he could lose the last real tether he has to his late mother.

But at least for now, that’s not happening. Andrew’s corgis, which he inherited after Queen Elizabeth II‘s death, will remain with him. The two dogs, Muick and Sandy, remained in his care even after he was stripped of his titles and had to vacate Royal Lodge.

“The corgis are the only ones not walking away,” one royal source told Rob Shuter. “They’re his last line of unconditional loyalty.”

Shuter also reported that even household staff have resigned or requested transfers to avoid being connected to Andrew. “People are protecting their reputations,” an insider said. “No one wants their career tied to this.”

His ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, is reportedly lying low with some wealthy friends, and Andrew’s daughters seem unlikely to want to be tied to his scandals. “Everyone is coping differently,” a source said. “But physically, emotionally — he’s on his own.”

Well, not on his own. He’s got the dogs. “Right now,” a former aide confirmed. “it’s just him and the dogs.”

Previous reports had indicated that Andrew is very attached to the corgis. “He takes huge pride in looking after the dogs,” a source told RadarOnline.com. “Many royals feel it’s inappropriate, but Andrew insisted his mother made her wishes clear.”

“He often says the queen personally handed him the leashes,” a source said. “He sees it as a sign of her trust – and a reminder of how different things feel now.”

Queen Elizabeth was known to have owned more than 30 Pembroke Welsh Corgis and “dorgis” during her life.

And the dogs were even in Andrew’s birthday plans before he was arrested on that very day. A friend told The Sun, “The plan was to spend a quiet and lonely 66th birthday at Wood Farm as no one was coming round to celebrate with him, not even Fergie or their two children Beatrice and Eugenie.”

“He was expecting to spend the day with seven dogs, instead he had 15 cops at his door.”

Andrew was arrested on February 19 and spent about 11 hours being questioned. The Thames Valley Police put out a statement confirming a “man in his sixties from Norfolk,” had “been released under investigation.”

After the arrest, King Charles released a statement that said, “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.”

He added, “In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”
