Jim Carrey has one of the most well-known and recognizable faces in Hollywood, but over the weekend, some people had suspicions that he was replaced by a clone.

On Feb. 27, 2026, Jim Carrey received an honorary award for his contributions to the film and television industry at the Cesar awards ceremony in Paris. He gave his speech entirely in French and thanked his partner, Min Ah, in a rare joint appearance. However, his unrecognizable look at the awards caused people to make conspiracy theories that he had been replaced at the ceremony.

Did Jim Carrey Get Plastic Surgery & What Happened to His Face?

Jim Carrey hasn’t confirmed or denied whether he got plastic surgery.

What added to the flames of the clone theory was when drag artist Alexis Stone posted a photo on Instagram with the caption, “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris” with what appeared to be a prosthetic in the last photo. Some people in the comments section believed the theory to be true. “We demand proof of life from Jim Carrey !!!!” one commenter wrote. Other people weren’t buying it. “Are you telling me that the Cesar Awards gave Jim Carrey a Honorífic Award, and The person who went to receive it was a some random Guy, no offense, that’s bull… That’s disrespectful and i Don’t believe it as the truth…” another person wrote.

Despite all the commotion happening online, Jim Carrey’s rep confirmed to TMZ that the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind actor did attend the awards ceremony. “Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award,” the rep said.

“Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation,” Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of France’s César Awards, told Variety in a statement about Carrey. “Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words. He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again.”

For his appearance, Caulier said, “For me, it’s a non-issue. Just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.”
