Keith Urban wants to get closer to his daughters after his high-profile divorce from Nicole Kidman. The country singer behind “Somebody Like You” is planning to take time off to spend time with his two kids, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15.
“Keith’s tour has kept him apart from the girls a lot more than he would like. As it is, he had to concede the majority of custody time to Nicole,” a source close to the singer told RadarOnline. “According to their divorce agreement, he only has Sunday Rose and Faith every other weekend, but when he’s touring, even that doesn’t work.”
According to court documents obtained by People, both Kidman and Urban agreed to waive all child and spousal support rights. The documents also revealed that Kidman and Urban’s daughters will live with Kidman at their primary residence 306 days out of the year. Urban, for his part, was granted 59 days out of the year. He’s allowed to spend every other weekend with his daughters, from 10 a.m. on Saturday morning to 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.
However, Urban is still persistent in making their vacation work. “They’re used to long stretches away from Keith, who’s always been a working musician, but it’s tough,” the source continued. “Keith is anxious to line up this trip with a break in the girls’ school schedule, so they can spend proper, relaxed time together.”
As for what he’s planning, the singer wants to go to a place that’s very special for them. “They love the Bahamas, so that’s likely where they’ll go. He’d love for Nicole to join them, but she’s still very hurt, so he’s had to accept that’s not likely.”
“He’s putting his focus on the girls,” the source concluded. “He knows he has some things to explain to them and he wants to make sure they know he’s just as devoted to them as he’s always been.”
The new report comes months after they were standing by their mother amid their divorce. “They love their dad, but Nicole’s been the constant,” one insider said. “She’s been there for every school event, every bedtime. Keith’s been touring, filming — gone.”
It isn’t just about being there, but about temperament, with Urban reportedly having a “fiery temper” unlike Kidman. “The girls have seen who held it all together,” the source explained. “They feel safest with Nicole.” And Kidman has been very focused on her family life since the split. “She’s turning their home into a sanctuary,” a family friend said. “There’s yoga, journaling, family dinners — all about healing.”
