Britney Spears‘ sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, are apparently refusing to take responsibility for their mom’s recent behavior.

A source told Rob Shuter’s “Naughty But Nice” Substack in a post published on March 6 that Spears’ kids, whom she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline, have no intention of managing her life after the singer was arrested for a DUI charge in Ventura County, California, on March 4.

“They love their mom, but they’re not going to be responsible for her,” the insider said. “That’s simply not their role.” The source continued, “They’ve already carried a lot growing up. They want their mom to be healthy, but they can’t fix this for her.”

As for Spears’ relationships with her sons, Shuter’s source claimed that Jayden has only recently reconnected with Spears, while Preston mainly lives in Hawaii with Federline. “They hope she gets help,” the insider said. “But this is something Britney has to do for herself.”

The report comes after Shuter also reported in a Substack post on March 5 that police found an “unknown substance” in her car during her arrest and were in the process of testing the material. “This could become much bigger than a DUI,” a source told Shuter. “Right now investigators are waiting to find out exactly what the substance is.”

The insider also claimed that Spears has been in contact with drug dealers. “She’s been hanging around some really shady characters,” the source said. “Several people are known drug dealers.” The insider continued, “Britney isn’t surrounded by people who are protecting her. She’s trusting the wrong people… Everyone around her is worried. This situation is spiraling fast.”

TMZ also originally reported that there was an unknown substance found in Spears’ car. However, law enforcement sources later denied that claim to the website, confirming that there were no drugs in Spears’ vehicle. The law enforcement sources also clarified the California Highway Police’s press release stating that “chemical test results were pending” in Soears’ case to mean that police are testing her blood for both drugs and alcohol as part of a routine examination.

Spears was arrested in Ventura County, California, on Wednesday, March 4, at 9:28 p.m. local time by the California Highway Patrol on a charge for allegedly driving under the influence. She was booked into a local jail at 3:02 a.m. and was released around 6 a.m., according to jail records obtained by TMZ, which was the first to report on her arrest. She’s set to make a court appearance at Ventura County Superior Court on May 4.

“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” a representative for Spears told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement after her arrest. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time. Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”
