The lack of details about the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mom has left the Today anchor in a very weird place. It’s hard to leave Tucson, and the continued investigation about what happened to Nancy Guthrie, but Savannah’s family is in New York, and so is her job. But does she really want to return to that job if it might have played a role in putting her mom in danger?

Rob Shuter reported that when Savannah visited the set of the Today show, it wasn’t just about saying thank you. It was also about reassuring everyone that she still feels the show is her home. “Savannah told the staff she loves this team, and she loves this job,” one insider said. “She promised them she will come back.”

For now, she’s still focused on the investigation, but sources said she believes her mother would want her to return to work. “Her mom would want her to keep going,” the source added. “That meant a lot to everyone in the room.”

The gossip columnist said that NBC is already brainstorming for Savannah Guthrie’s eventual return. “There have already been meetings about it,” a network source explained. “They want to acknowledge what Savannah has been going through, but they also want to do their job and deliver the news.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Guthrie told the staff, “I wanted you to know that I’m still standing, and I still have hope and I’m still me. I don’t know what version of me that will be, but it will be.” She also reportedly said, “I have every intention of coming back. I don’t know how to come back, but I don’t know how not to. You’re my family and I would like to try.”

During the visit, meteorologist Dylan Dreyer led the team in a prayer saying, “We’re here holding hands as a family, in a place where we don’t understand why this is happening. It is not too bold to ask God for the biggest miracles every day.”

On the show, Dreyer said about the moment, “It felt like the right moment for all of us. When I feel helpless, I pray… We asked for that miracle.”

“I think we needed to see her as much as she needed to see us,” co-anchor Al Roker added, with Carson Daly saying, “She came into the middle, no speech, spoke from the heart. Said the most perfect words you could ever imagine and looked every one of this family in the eyes.”

All of this after Radar Online reported on February 25 that Savannah has been “questioning” whether her fame put her “family’s safety” at risk. “Savannah is devastated – and fearing the worst. She’s trying to be strong, but this has shattered her,” the insider said. “She’s questioning everything – her career, her public life and whether staying in the spotlight is worth the risk to her family’s safety.” The source added, “Her only focus is protecting her family. Returning to Today is absolutely the last thing on her mind.”

Nancy Guthrie disappeared sometime between the night of January 31 and the morning of February 1. The Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI do not have any serious leads at this point.
