The details of the Nancy Guthrie case continue to be extremely confusing, if nothing else, because it feels like over a month after Savannah Guthrie’s mom disappeared from her home, there are few real leads. Sure, police released surveillance photos and video, and reportedly recovered DNA from a glove found near the house, but there have been no suspects identified, and we still have no idea what happened.
Now, police are investigating a damaged utility box around the corner from Nancy Guthrie’s home. Police have reason to believe the equipment could be connected to a reported internet outage in the area around the time Guthrie disappeared. This outage affected nearby surveillance and video evidence and has made it harder for police to pinpoint a suspect.

Reportedly, one neighbor found that their Ring camera closest to Nancy Guthrie’s home was “not available” during the time of the abduction. NBC News reported that it would take a professional-grade Wi-Fi jammer to knock out the internet in such a large radius. However, experts also told NBC News that there would likely not be any surveillance or video cameras if a Wi-Fi jammer had been used.
Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson confirmed to News 4 Tucson on Sunday that they are indeed looking at the damaged utility box. “It is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. At this time, we do not have any more information to release,” the spokesperson said.
Savannah Guthrie is back in New York after staying in Tucson alongside her sister Annie and brother Camron for over a month. But Guthrie, who has been absent from her job on the Today show since February 2, still doesn’t have a set date to return. She visited the set on Thursday, March 5.
“Savannah Guthrie stopped by the studio this morning to be with and thank her Today colleagues,” an NBC News spokesperson said in a statement. “While she plans to return to the show on air, she remains focused right now supporting her family and working to help bring Nancy home.”
This comes after a woman’s body was found in a canal in Arizona. The remains were discovered on Friday, February 6, in a canal in Phoenix, around 100 miles from Tucson, where Nancy went missing during the night of February 1. “Details on the call indicated that an adult female was on the nearby canal bank and was unresponsive,” police said in a statement. “When officers arrived, they located the woman, who was ultimately pronounced deceased on scene.”
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department told Fox News that it has not received any confirmation that the woman’s body was Nancy or connected to her case. “PCSD says it has not been advised of any law enforcement activity at the canal in Phoenix this morning being connected to the Nancy Guthrie case,” Fox News reporter Michael Ruiz tweeted.
As of today, there are no clear leads or suspects in the Nancy Guthrie case.
