The thing about the Nancy Guthrie investigation so far is that not all that much has actually come out. We know when Savannah Guthrie’s mom disappeared. Police released surveillance photos and video of a suspect. They recovered DNA. But despite all of that, there are no credible leads, and no firm suspects have been identified. So, people are hanging on to every little news that looks like it might relate to the case.
Including recent reports that a woman’s body was found in a canal in Phoenix, Arizona. The remains were discovered on Friday, February 6, around 100 miles from Tucson, where Nancy went missing during the night of February 1. “Details on the call indicated that an adult female was on the nearby canal bank and was unresponsive,” police said in a statement. “When officers arrived, they located the woman, who was ultimately pronounced deceased on scene.”

Ever since the discovery, people have been wondering if the worst could be true. But law enforcement has now confirmed the identity of the victim, and it is not Nancy Guthrie. Instead, the woman has been identified as Alex Fleming, 42, according to KTAR. Her murder is being investigated by Phoenix homicide detectives after reports that the body exhibited “signs of trauma.”
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department told Fox News that it had not received any confirmation that this discovery was connected to their case. “PCSD says it has not been advised of any law enforcement activity at the canal in Phoenix this morning being connected to the Nancy Guthrie case,” Fox News reporter Michael Ruiz tweeted.
All of this comes after reports that police are investigating a damaged utility box around the corner from Nancy Guthrie’s home. There’s suspicion that the equipment could be connected to a reported internet outage in the area around the time Guthrie disappeared.
Nancy Guthrie disappeared on February 1. As of today, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI do not have any concrete leads. The reward for information about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance is up to $1 million.
On a message posted on February 24, Savannah Guthrie said, “It is day 24 since our mom was taken in the dark of night from her bed, and every hour and minute and second and every long night has been agony since then — of worrying about her and fearing for her and aching for her and most of all, just missing her,” She also added, “We still believe in a miracle. We still believe that she can come home. Hope against hope. As my sister says, we are blowing on the embers of hope.”
“We also know that she may be lost; she may already be gone. She may already have gone home to the Lord that she loves, and is dancing in heaven with her mom and her dad and her beloved brother, Pierce, and with our daddy,” Savannah added. “And if this is what is to be, then we will all accept it. But we need to know where she is. We need her to come home.”
