Justin Trudeau’s Son Confesses He Was ‘Confused’ by Katy Perry Romance After His Mom Hinted She Was ‘Triggered’ by the Relationship
For teenagers, seeing their parents date someone else is always weird. Imagine if your father is former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and he’s now dating singer Katy Perry. That’s probably as big as it gets.
Now Xavier Trudeau, Justin’s oldest son, who goes by Xav, has referenced his father’s relationship in a new song. The lyrics read, “I move like my pops, JT/ I got me my own KP.” He also makes another Katy Perry reference, calling his relationship with his girlfriend a “teenage dream.” Probably a sign they’re all getting along very well.

On Jessica Cruickshank’s Phone a Friend podcast, Xav discussed both the lyrics and his reaction to learning that his father was dating Katy Perry. “I was confused, but honestly, to me, the most important thing is if they’re happy, then that’s what’s important,” he said. “I think they would say the same thing about me and my music.”
“I can tell he’s really happy with her,” he added. “I’ve met her a couple of times, and she’s great. I’m happy for them.”
He had previously spoken about her in an Instagram video where he joined content creator G Hobs, who asked if Xav had met Perry. “I have,” Xavier confirmed. “She’s cool, she’s nice,” he said, adding that “we talked for hours, talking about my music. She gave me advice and next steps for me and stuff.”
Xavier was just confirming reports about his relationship with the popstar. After Xav released a rap video that was widely panned, there were reports about Perry offering support. “Katy told him point-blank that every artist gets dragged. She wanted him to know she understands exactly how it feels,” a source told Rob Shuter’s Shuterscoop. Another insider said, “[Perry] connected him with producers and told him to keep working. She wants him to take the criticism seriously, but not personally.”
“She’s there as support, not a manager. She listens to his demos, but she also tells him when something doesn’t work… He feels safer with her in his corner.”
All of this comes after Trudeau’s ex-wife and Xavier’s mother, Sophie Grégoire, discussed her ex’s new relationship on the “Arlene is Alone” podcast. “You know, we’re human beings, and stuff affects us. Normal,” she explained. “How you react to stuff is your decision. So, I choose to try to listen to the music instead of the noise.”
Grégoire also said she’s “very aware that a lot of public stuff out there can be triggers.” But “what I do with it is my decision. The woman I want to become through this is my decision.”
And as for the relationship between Trudeau and his kids, Grégoire confirmed he is very much involved. “I’m definitely not a single mom,” she said. “I have a partnership with a father who has such deep love and availability to his children.” And it seems like now Katy Perry is involved in that dynamic as well.
