Ever since Jeff Bezos married Lauren Sánchez, people have been very interested in the former journalist. Kind of what happens when you marry one of the richest men in the world. And Sánchez hasn’t just faded into the background, either. She’s been front and center next to Bezos, will co-host the Met Gala with him, and has been busy promoting her children’s books.

Which is why the new revelations about her supposed interest in Bill Clinton years ago are now resurfacing. Yoga instructor Alanna Zabel, a former friend of Sánchez, claimed in a lawsuit that Sánchez expressed interest in ex-President Bill Clinton after meeting him in 2009. Enough that her friend gave her the nickname “Monica.”

“In communications with Sánchez, Zabel sometimes used the name ‘Monica’ to refer to Sánchez,” according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit by Zabel claims Sánchez stole her idea for a children’s book.

Not just that, the lawsuit says Bezos’ new wife “seemed to have enjoyed this nickname.”

“She said [Clinton] was so sexy and mesmerizing,” Zabel told The Post, per Page Six. “She really wanted to meet him and get an interview … She couldn’t stop talking about Bill Clinton.”

Sánchez did interview Clinton in 2010, and at the time, people commented on the flirty exchanges in the interview.

In the lawsuit, Zabel alleges Sánchez’s 2024 book “The Fly Who Flew to Space” took plot points, story arcs, and subject matter from her book, “Dharma Kitty Goes to Mars,” which was published a year earlier. The lawsuit was filed in California, with Sánchez, publisher of the Collective Book Studio and distributor Simon & Schuster, all named in the claim.

Zabel alleges the two discussed the idea of creating a children’s book together after Sánchez told her a story about a helicopter trip where a fly was stuck to the windshield the entire time. Zabel had written children’s books before, so the two discussed making this story into a possible book.

“It’s paralyzing to watch a former client with a vendetta against you who marries the richest guy in world, then takes your heart’s passion and pretends it’s hers,” Zabel also told The Post. She also claims Sánchez cut off contact from her in 2009, after she upstaged her on her 40th birthday party.

Sánchez’s attorneys responded that the “claim is frivolous,” according to an August court filing. “The Works are not similar other than the fact that they are both children’s books that involve a spontaneous trip to space,” the response read. Zabel “does not own the concept of a school-age character unexpectedly taking a trip to and from space,” lawyers also argued.

Plus, the response notes that Zabel “attacks [Sánchez] with irrelevant allegations that she is jealous of Plaintiff, ‘harbor[s] resentment towards,’ and is out ‘to exact revenge’ or is ‘trolling’ Plaintiff.”

“Those allegations are irrelevant to a copyright infringement analysis, but are clearly intended to color this Court against Ms. Sánchez in the hope that it will think there is no smoke without fire. This Court should disregard them.”
