Brooke Shields Finally Addresses JFK Jr Romance After Love Story Exposed Their Relationship Before His Engagement to Carolyn Bessette
Everyone knows that Ryan Murphy’s Love Story isn’t exactly reality, but a fictionalized account of events. Murphy has been criticized before for the way his other series, Monster, took liberty with real events. But that doesn’t mean people aren’t hanging on to every detail of the show, which focuses on the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette.
One of those details is the relationship between JFK Jr. and Brooke Shields. Did the two of them date? What has Shields said about it? And what does the show depict?
JFK Jr. and Shields briefly dated in the 80s
Yes, there’s truth to the fact that JFK Jr. and Brooke Shields dated, but it wasn’t for very long. Shields recently addressed her relationship with JFK Jr. on a TikTok with her daughter, Rowan Henchy. In the video, both are lip-syncing to Charlie XCX’s song, “Boom Clap.”
The clip starts with just Henchy on screen with the words, “I wonder if JFK Jr. was a good kisser?”. Shields then pops up from behind her daughter, as the words, “One of the best” appear on the screen. “But don’t forget … they never dated,” Rowan captioned the video.
Shields had previously discussed her relationship with JFK Jr. While on “The Howard Stern Show” in April 2023, she discussed meeting him while in Aspen and the two of them going on one date. Their relationship, according to Shields, didn’t go any further because she didn’t sleep with him after that one date.
“He kissed me, and it was like the best kiss I’ve ever had in my life,” she said. “The lips are beautiful in the face, it is amazing, the body and the person, and he was down to earth and funny and irreverent…I froze though because it was so precious to me, and I was like oh my God you’re falling in love and if you sleep with him, he may not talk to you again, and you can’t handle that.”
She then recalled that afterwards, they saw each other the next day on the slopes, and he didn’t look at her or try to talk to her. “He showed his true colors in that,” she sentenced.
JFK Jr. went on to marry Carolyn Bessette in 1996, after the two dated for about two years. In July 1999, the small plane he was piloting crashed into the ocean, with JFK Jr., Carolyn and her sister Lauren dying in the crash. Those close to JFK Jr. have criticized the show. “Well, if you want to know someone who’s never met anyone in my family, knows nothing about us, talk to Ryan Murphy. I would just want people who do watch the show to watch it with one letter in mind, and that’s a capital F for fiction,” Jack Schlossberg, JFK Jr.’s nephew, told CBS News.
He added that Murphy is “making a ton of money on a grotesque display of someone else’s life,” and he should take the money and donate it to “some of the causes that John championed throughout his life.”
Actress Daryl Hannah, who dated JFK Jr. before his marriage, also criticized the show and her portrayal. “I have never used cocaine in my life or hosted cocaine-fueled parties,” she wrote for The New York Times. “I have never pressured anyone into marriage. I have never desecrated any family heirloom or intruded upon anyone’s private memorial. I have never planted any story in the press. I never compared Jacqueline Onassis’ death to a dog’s. It’s appalling to me that I even have to defend myself against a television show. These are not creative embellishments of personality. They are assertions about conduct – and they are false.”
