The news about the British royal family has not focused on anyone’s health as of late. That’s what happens when one of the members of the family is arrested for suspicion of misconduct in public office, and when two members of the family are all over the Epstein files. But though the drama surrounding Andrew and Fergie has taken all the headlines, there’s still significant interest in the health of both King Charles and Kate Middleton.

Middleton, who was diagnosed with cancer a couple of years ago and announced she was in remission just last year, gave a rare update about her health while visiting the Southwark Brewing Company in London on March 12. During the visit, Middleton said while pouring pints, “Since my diagnosis, I haven’t had much alcohol. It’s something I have to be a lot more conscious of now,” Matt Wilkinson of The Sun wrote on X.

Then Middleton turned to her husband and said, “But you like cider.” Cider is, indeed, Prince William’s go-to drink.

This comes a little over a year after Middleton announced she was in remission from cancer. She’d originally announced her illness in March 2024, saying then that she was undergoing treatment for cancer detected following an abdominal surgery. Middleton reduced her royal duties to focus on her health, and in September announced she’d completed treatment.

Middleton opened up about her cancer recovery while speaking to patients and staff members of the NHS last year. “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment,” she explained. “Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.”

“You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to,” she explained. “And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you, and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable.”

“You have to find your new normal and that takes time…and it’s a roller coaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be,” she added. “But the reality is you go through hard times.”

And Middleton is not the only one who has been dealing with cancer. King Charles was also diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer around the same time as Middleton. Her cancer is in remission, but the King is still battling against his, and there have even been reports that he could be abdicating soon because of it. However, last December, he shared a very encouraging update.

In a pre-recorded message for Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer broadcast, the King said, “Today I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to ‘doctors’ orders,’ my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the New Year,” the King said.

“This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testimony to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care in recent years; testimony that I hope may give encouragement to the fifty percent of us who will be diagnosed with the illness at some point in our lives.”
