When Marty Supreme first premiered, Timothée Chalamet seemed like an easy frontrunner for the Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar. He remained so for a lot of the awards season, but as we got closer to the Oscars, he seemed to lose steam. And though voting for the award ended before his latest controversy—a comment about opera and ballet that enraged those communities, Chalamet didn’t go into the 98th Academy Awards as the favorite.

So, perhaps, it wasn’t a surprise that Michael B. Jordan walked out of the ceremony with an Oscar for his role in Sinners, with Chalamet once again going home empty-handed. He’s now been nominated three times for the award, and has never won. And though he’s hardly the first actor or actress to ever be nominated multiple times and not win an award, this is just about when people start breaking down why he didn’t win.

And Rob Shuter is reporting that Chalamet is putting at least some of the blame on the Kardashians. According to the gossip columnist, Chalamet, who is dating Kylie Jenner, believes the relationship could have hurt him. “Timothée thinks the Kylie relationship hurt his image with older voters,” one insider said. “He believes the Kardashian circus cost him the Oscar.”

Jenner reportedly very much disagrees. “Kylie is furious,” the source added. “She’s telling friends the loss had nothing to do with her.”

There were reports that during the ceremony, Chalamet leaned over and whispered to Jenner, “I hate this,” according to a lip reader. And when Michael B. Jordan was announced as the winner, reports indicate Chalamet was shaken. “He took the loss very personally,” the insider said.

Chalamet and Jenner didn’t look to be having any problems at the Vanity Fair Oscars After Party, where they were reportedly packing on the PDA. But sources insist things are not that great. “Timmy’s ego is bruised,” one source told Shuter. “And right now he’s looking for someone to blame.”

But Shuter himself had previously reported from Oscar voters that the problem wasn’t Chalamet’s relationship, but his personality. “Timothée is incredibly talented,” one voter said, “But he’s very difficult.”

And reportedly, his campaign for the award didn’t endear him to people. “He’s arrogant,” a source said. “He tried to control the PR and marketing strategy. This is a 30-year-old actor telling 50- and 60-year-old professionals how to do their jobs.”

“The more voters got to know him, the less they liked him,” one insider added. “There’s no love lost for Timmy.”

Those same sources said that, “This had nothing to do with Kylie,” adding, “She’s actually more liked than he is.”

“Kylie is in on the joke,” the source explained. “She can laugh at herself.” And the sense is that he can’t. “He has zero sense of humor,” another insider said. “At this point he’s become the joke.”

With the awards season for 2026 now over, it’s time for Chalamet to look towards his next role. That’s likely to be Dune: Part Three. Will he get nominated for that, too? We’ll have to wait and see.
