Heather Gay Black Eye
Bravo

One of the biggest mysteries of Real Housewives has been solved….or has it? Since season 3, many Bravo fans have been wondering who gave Heather a black eye, and she finally revealed who did it in the season 4 finale.

Heather Gay is one of seven cast members on Season 4 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City—also known as RHOSLC—along with original Housewives Lisa Barlow, Meredith Marks, and Whitney Rose; new Housewives Angie Katsanevas and Monica Garcia; and Friend Mary Cosby.

During an interview on the podcast “Two Ts in a Pod” in August 2023, Whitney teased that Season 4 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City returns to form after the exit of original cast member Jen Shah, who is incarcerated for fraud, after Season 3. “Season 4 kind of goes back to the original OG Salt Lake City roots,” Whitney said. She continued, “But we’re not fighting over you know…” to which Tamra Judge added, “someone who’s going to prison.” Whitney continued, “Having Jen gone is like a breath of fresh air.”

During one of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season 3 episodes, Heather revealed that she got a black eye on the left side of her face. She told Whitney during the finale, “I think we all know what happened, I just think we don’t want to talk about it.”

“I don’t know how I got the black eye,” Heather claimed during last season’s reunion. “I blacked out. I don’t know what happened. … I cannot speak to anything other than I walked to my room and I blacked out and I woke up with a black eye.”

However, she might have tied the loose ends, and the reported perpetrator is denying the claims. So who gave Heather a black eye?

Who gave Heather a black eye on Real Housewives of Salt Lake City?

Heather revealed she got the black eye from Jen Shah. The Real Housewives star revealed the moment in a tense moment where she compared rookie housewife Monica Garcia to Jen. “I went on book tour and defended [Jen] and took s—t for the fact that she gave me a black eye,” Heather recalled.

Surrounded by her castmates, Meredith responded with “What?” and Lisa gasped, “Woah.” Heather expanded, “I had to ride hard for [Jen] and I had to lie for her. We’re not going to do it again with you,” before telling Monica to “pack her bags and go.”

Right after the finale aired, Jen posted on social media, “BRAVO, if I punched Heather in her eye, you guys would have footage to prove it,” the post read on her Instagram story, with quotation marks around the text. “It’s clear the show can’t live without me since I was brought up at the beginning, middle and end of season 4.”

“Andy [Cohen] is still butt hurt that I turned down his 1:1 interview,” the post continued. “Why would you sit down with someone who ‘gave’ another cast member a black eye? Next story.”

Andy Cohen responded to Jen’s claim on his radio show, saying: “I don’t want to be captain obvious here, but if we had footage, don’t you think we would’ve aired it?” Andy said. “Do you think we wouldn’t have said, ‘Heather.’ Heather’s saying, ‘I don’t know how I got the black eye,’ and then don’t you think we would’ve cut to the footage with a chyron that said, ‘Four hours earlier.’ Pop.”

During an interview with E! News, Meredith speculated that it was a bit of a misunderstanding. “[Heather] didn’t say, ‘She punched me in the eye.’ If I had to make my best guess, it happened when they were drunk and running around and being kind of silly.”

Jen left The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City following Season 3 after she pled guilty to fraud charges and was sentenced to six and a half years in prison. Jen is currently incarcerated at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Bryan, Texas, where Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes is also serving an 11-year sentence.

During an episode on the podcast “Two Ts in a Pod” in August 2023, Whitney Rose, another Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast member, claimed that the only cast member she believed to be in touch with Jen was Heather, though she couldn’t confirm if the two had spoken since Jen went to prison.

Some fans believe that it’s unlikely that Heather’s call came from Jen given that the call seemed to start right away after Heather picked up her phone. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website, for which Federal Prison Camp Bryan is listed, Jen most likely paid for the call so there may not have been a notice after Heather picked up the phone that the call was from Jen. “Ordinarily, the inmate pays for the calls; but in some cases the receiving party pays,” the site read.

Heather has been open about her friendship with Jen after the incident and the season 3 reunion. “I trusted her the most,” Heather told Andy Cohen. She wanted Jen’s help creating “a cover story” while she tried to figure out what happened.

“If I knew Jen did that, I would cover it up, but that was not my intention,” Heather continued. “I was blacked out. Anything could’ve happened. I still don’t know how it happened.”
