Supportive family. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle haven’t responded to Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis yet. However, sources close to the Royals hint that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex weren’t aware of the situation before her announcement.
Kate Middleton announced on March 22, 2024, that she was diagnosed with cancer after undergoing abdominal surgery. “The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”
Shortly after the announcement, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a statement to their sister-in-law’s diagnosis. “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace,” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a statement Friday.
“I know there were reports, particularly over in the U.S., that Meghan had reached out to Kate that there had been some sort of a thawing of the relationship,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight the day before the announcement. “I think those reports are slightly wide off the mark.”
“Of course they’re aware she’s been in the [hospital], I’m not even sure they know what’s she’s been in for because the relationship is very estranged now, you know, the brothers don’t talk and Kate and Meghan certainly don’t talk, so while well-wishes have been extended — certainly on the part of the Sussexes — I’m not sure that they’re actually as in the loop as perhaps more senior members of the royal family,” she continued.
Prince Harry and William’s father King Charles was also diagnosed with cancer around the same time that Kate Middleton had her surgery. Reports from Life & Style disclosed that Prince Harry might move back to the UK amid King Charles’ cancer diagnosis. The monarch was diagnosed with cancer after a prostate examination and it might affect where his son will live in the future.
“He’s planning to move his family back to England,” a source told Life & Style of the “homesick” Duke of Sussex. “When he told Meghan, she was beyond shocked. She can’t believe he’s even considering it!”
