Going way back. The iconic R&B singer looked at the rapper as a source of inspiration, and many people might be wondering how Usher and Diddy met. All eyes are on the artists’ relationship after Diddy’s homes were raided in March 2024.
Diddy’s Los Angeles, New York City, and Miami homes were raided by federal agents. Law enforcement sources told TMZ that this appears to be tied to sex trafficking allegations against Diddy in recent months.
On November 16, 2023, Casandra Ventura, also known as R&B singer Cassie, filed a lawsuit in a New York federal court against Combs, whom she dated between 2005 and 2018. She claimed he’d been sexually and physically abusive throughout their relationship, ranging from beating Ventura and forcing her to have sex with other men, to raping her at her home in 2018. They settled the next day.
Diddy has a long history with Usher, who has been open about how the rapper has helped him through his career. So how did Usher meet Diddy? Read more to find out.
Usher met Diddy in the 90s when LA Reid signed the singer to LaFace and Arista. The record executive reportedly sent the then 13-year-old to live with Diddy in New York for a year.
In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2004, Usher divulged what Diddy introduced him to as “a totally different set of s***—sex, specifically.”
He told the publication, “Sex is so hot in the industry, man. There was always girls around. You’d open a door and see somebody doing it, or several people in a room having an orgy. You never knew what was going to happen.”
He expanded on what he found in Diddy’s home in an interview with Howard Stern in 2016, saying that there were “very curious things taking place” during his time residing with Diddy in New York City. “I got a chance to see some things. I went there to see the lifestyle—and I saw it.”
He continued: “I don’t know if I could indulge and understand what I was even looking at. It was pretty wild.” Stern asked him if he would allow his children to attend Diddy’s Camp. “Hell no,” he responded.
Recently, Usher also told People about his experiences at Diddy’s house in New York City. “I can remember Outkast making their first records and being able to hear Rico [Wade] work on these songs, literally sleeping in this man’s living room, being in the dungeon, just kind of being around and just trying to figure out who’s who,” he recalled.
“I got a tutor, went to New York City, and he began to show me the ropes,” Usher told People. “Some of the most valuable lessons I could ever learn as an entrepreneur were picked up when I spent that time in New York with him, this unwavering desire to create and make certain that your creative ideas executed.”
He gushed about the work inspiration, “I saw him in the real time working it out, him building something from nothing, him understanding how culture and collaboration could build careers. Being able to see that, that’s what I got.”
