Love all around. Madelyn Cline walked the Met Gala red carpet after ex-boyfriend Chase Stokes and current girlfriend Kelsea Ballerini made an appearance. The Outer Banks stars were invited to Fashion’s Biggest Night and they did not disappoint.
Madelyn Cline wore a yellow custom-made Tommy Hilfiger piece in line with this year’s dress code, The Garden of Time. Chase Stokes wore a custom Michael Kors suit, while Kelsea Ballerini wore a pink and lilac floral dress.
The Outer Banks star revealed to People how he and Kelsea found out they were walking the red carpet together. “I had just flown from Morocco to Atlanta to do re-shoots for a movie with Netflix. It was a 26-hour travel day. I worked all day and then I had the next morning to do something. I was on the way to the aquarium with my girlfriend and we got the call. I was like, ‘Oh my God, we’re going to the Met.’”

He adds that receiving the news was a “very wild moment, but nonetheless, one that I will never, ever forget.”
He emphasized that they’re wearing “f—king awesome looks” that are “very individual,” represent both their personalities and overall mesh well together. “I think what we like to do is just complement versus coordinate,” he says.
Kelsea Ballerini talked to StyleCaster about their relationship when it began to bloom. “The thing that we’ve decided, and to each their own, is when you’re with someone that you feel secure with and that you’re proud to be with, why not share it?” she says. “He’s also a Virgo; we’re both Labrador Retrievers in human form. It doesn’t take much conversation to be on the same page.”

Chase Stokes dated his Outer Banks co-star from a year from 2020 to 2021. In an interview with Cosmopolitan in February 2023, Cline opened up about what it was like to work with Stokes after their breakup. “We always said that the job remains untouched. Nothing else, personal or negative, will touch the job. And while that’s not always easy, our job is to leave the show better than we found it, to leave the season better than we found it. And I’m really appreciative of that,” she said.
She continued, “My thing is, I don’t owe anyone an explanation. I am a really private person. There’s a part of me that is for me and nobody else. But in hindsight, duh, making my relationship public made it everybody else’s business. And I realized the negative side effects of that while going through the breakup, realizing I had let people in and then felt like I couldn’t get anybody out. It just hit me like a freight train. I wanted us both to move on and be happy. People see the need for sides. There are no sides—there’s no winning or losing in a breakup.”
