With him landing back in his home country, it brings up the question if Prince Harry saw King Charles during his visit. The Duke of Sussex visited the UK in honor of the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games.
It was the first time that Prince Harry would head back to England after his father announced that he was diagnosed with cancer. Before the visit, Harry asked if he could stay in a royal residence when he was in the U.K. His father King Charles is said to have agreed to the request, but then Harry ended up staying in a hotel for three days.
The U.K Sunday Times said that Harry was “deeply stung” by not seeing Charles. A friend of Harry’s said: “It surprises me a lot. I was fully expecting them to meet. I know that’s what he wanted to happen and I don’t know when he’s next back.”
Harry’s spokesperson told Us Weekly that seeing his father was just not in the cards for this trip: “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not The Duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it, unfortunately, will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full program.”
On May 8, 2024 Harry saw a 10th birthday celebration for the Invictus Games at St. Paul’s Cathedral with none of his Royal family present but Princess Diana’s brother did show up. At the same time, King Charles hosted the Palace’s first garden party of the year at Buckingham Palace.
The same day, Buckingham Palace announced that Prince William received the new title of colonel-in-chief of the Army Air Corps. This prestigious title is one that Harry might have expected to receive from his father, King Charles, if he hadn’t decided to step back from his role in the royal family. To add insult to injury, the announcement came right as the palace confirmed King Charles would not be meeting with Harry after he touched down in the UK for a visit to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. Given the timing of it all, royal commentators couldn’t help but note how the royal family seems to be giving Harry the cold shoulder at every turn.
