You’d be forgiven for thinking these two are an item, but as far as we know, they’re just good friends who are really good at playing up their chemistry for the camera—though that’s not to say fans really wish they’d get together IRL.

Speaking with TVInsider, Hardung explained that James and Ruby’s love for each other in the show is strong. “I hope that the message of the show really holds up,” the actor said. “When there’s love, there’s nothing in between that can stop them. They can overcome those obstacles that they have and the circumstances to actually be able to be together.”
Before the season 2 premiere, Herbig-Matten talked on the “G Spot” podcast, Herbig-Matten finally addressed the rumors. “It was difficult. We are not together and we weren’t together either.”
“When you always read these comments about how we are so together, I started to get pressure that it had to be true,” she talked about the fan comments. “So I was like, ‘Only when that is the case, I will do people justice and then they will be happy,’” she explained. “I thought that for a long time. Then over the course of time, I had to learn to distance myself from this version.”
Herbig-Matten continued: “There’s Ruby and there’s Harriet who is promoted. So you know that this person who is me and has my name is not the real Harriet that I am in my private life. I first had to learn that this doesn’t correspond to reality and that was difficult.”
