Suni excelled on the USA Gymnastics Team when she received her first gold medal during the All Around competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She’s the first Hmong-American Olympian and has spoken about how she’s proud of her heritage. She told Today about how much the Hmong-American community in her hometown of St. Paul “sacrificed a lot” for her, Suni said, including fundraisers.

Who has Suni Lee dated?
At 21 years old, she’s already won another gold medal during the women’s artistic team all-around at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and many fans would like to know who’s supported her on the sideline. While Suni is currently single, she recently dated University of Southern California football player, Jaylin Smith, according to her Team USA profile. The gold-medal-winning gymnast and college football player were first linked in 2021.
Suni hard-launched her relationship with Jaylin in December 2021 when she posted a series of photos with the athlete, but the post was met with hate comments. Members of the Hmong community criticized Suni’s interracial relationship, but many of her fans came to the rescue to defend her and who she loves.
“I know that Sunisa will be judged by certain eyes in the Hmong Community because her man is Black,” user alixphom wrote in the caption of a TikTok video where he’s posing and putting his thumbs up in front of a picture of the couple. “LOVE is LOVE, no matter what race or gender you are. Keep doing you QUEEN.”
In a since-deleted comment on the video, Suni reportedly wrote, “This makes me so happy. I’ve received so much hate,” and claimed that many people only support her “when it’s beneficial for them, never when it comes to my happiness.”
Sunisa hasn’t posted a photo of them together since the incident, but she did comment “proud” on a recent Instagram photo of Jaylin wearing an Indianapolis Colts jersey.
