Well, it’s happened. After months of speculation and hostile rumors, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have divorced. The timing of when the paperwork was filed has certainly raised some eyebrows as it fell on a special date for the couple.
Court documents obtained by Rolling Stone reveal that Ben and Jen’s actual date of separation was April 26. The filing of the divorce paperwork, however, fell exactly on the second anniversary of their traditional wedding ceremony on August 20, 2022. “The timing of the divorce was a big f—k you to Ben,” an insider told Us Weekly.
Rumors their marriage was on the rocks began in May when In Touch reported in May 2024. “The writing is on the wall—it’s over,” an insider said. “They’re headed for a divorce—and for once, [Ben’s] not to blame!”
The source continued, “He’s focusing on his work and his kids now. Ben already moved out and they’ll likely have to sell the dream house they spent two years searching for. They’ll never stop loving each other, but she can’t control him, and he can’t change her. There’s no way it could have lasted.”
Fans began to think something was up when they noticed that the couple were increasingly spending time apart, notably that he didn’t accompany her to the Met Gala on May 6. Of course, we know why now, they’d been separated for at least a week.
