Sure, it’s always fun when famous people we care about post #throwback photos of themselves as kids (or, as a curly-haired young man holding a cat—ahem, Michael Kors), but we were extra-psyched by the baby pic Blake Lively posted of herself on Monday because it was just as much about one of the finest ’80s movies ever made as it was about the actress.
In the photo, an adorable Blake looks to be about a year old (and, into punk it seems—check out that mohawk), and she’s being held by big sister Robyn Lively, the star of the 1989 cult classic “Teen Witch” (we’ll get to that in a sec.) Next to Robyn? That’d be actor Dan Gauthier, who basically made every late-’80s girl shriek with his Tom Cruise-ian looks.
In case you’ve never heard of “Teen Witch,” (which—sigh—most of you probably haven’t) we seriously suggest seeking it out immediately to see Blake’s sister slay it as Louise, the dorkiest girl at a typical suburban high school who learns she’s descended from the witches of Salem—and has inherited magical powers.
Louise uses these powers to (obviously) get back at the popular clique who made her life hell, become the prettiest girl in town, and to win the heart of the captain of the football team Brad Power (the aforementioned Gauthier) but—like all good teen flicks, she learns a Very Important Lesson along the way.
Though the movie is packed with ’80s camp—big hair, cheerleaders, leg warmers, letterman jackets, and a few ridiculous musical numbers, we’re putting the word out now that Blake should reprise her sister’s role in a modern-day retelling. Excuse us while we set up a Kickstarter campaign now.
In case you’re not convinced, here’s a clip of “Teen Witch” below.
