E! finally premiered its buzzy new Caitlyn Jenner docuseries”I Am Cait” and—no surprise here—there were more than a few important moments.
In case you missed it (or aren’t sure you want to start watching), read on. One thing to note: This certainly is not a tawdry “Keeping Up With the Kardashian” sequel—it’s clear E!’s trying very hard to treat this with a degree of depth, rather than simply a vehicle for Monday-morning gossip.
Caitlyn’s mother is super-endearing in her willingness to understand.
After meeting Caitlyn for the first time, mom Esther isn’t unsupportive, but she is totally honest in revealing that it isn’t easy to adjust to her son’s new life. “It’s going to take some getting used to,” she said, adding “but I’ll get there. I will.” Aw.

The show raises awareness on transgender suicide.
In one poignant scene, Caitlyn spends time with the family of a 14-year-old trandgendered youth who committed suicide. This shows us that the series absolutely will be handled with emotional care.
Kim goes through Caitlyn’s closet.
Kim and Kanye breeze in and right away, Kim asks to see Caitlin’s closet. She orders her to get rid of a few things, and they have a laugh about Caitlyn doing a “who wore it best” with ex-wife Kris Jenner, given they now both own the same Tom Ford dress. Clearly, this is how Kim is dealing with the transition.

Kanye says something poignant.
Proving again that he has more depth than his wife, Kanye—who smiles a lot— tells Caitlyn, “I think this is one of the strongest things that have happened in our existence as human beings.” Also of note: Kanye refuses to be on “KUWTK” but he’s willing to appear here, likely because it’s important.
Kylie brings Cait hair extensions.
The first official time Kylie Jenner “meets” Caitlyn, she comes bearing gifts in the form of turquoise hair extensions. Some people on Twitter seemed to think that the visit wasn’t only sterile, but a chance for the teen to hawk her hair line.

It wisely ends with a PSA.
At the end of the episode, a PSA flashes on the screen saying: “If you are a young person in crisis, feeling suicidal, or in need of a safe and judgement-free place to talk, call the Trevor Lifeline at 866-488-7386.”
