Famous women—particularly those with major social media followings—are the target of a lot of online hate, but Gigi Hadid had the most perfect response to body-shamers on Instagram this morning. “You can make up all the reasons you think I am where I am, but, really, I’m a hard worker that’s confident in myself,” she wrote as part of a statement posted to her account.
Despite (or perhaps due to) her incredible success as a model and a portfolio dotted with brands such as Tom Ford, Topshop, Balmain, and Versace, there are apparently some Instagram users who have something nasty to say about Hadid’s body. Perhaps people forget that there are real people behind celebrity Instagram accounts—and in Hadid’s case, a 20-year-old woman. Hadid drives that point home by admitting she isn’t immune to the negative comments: “I’m human, and I’m not going to lie, I did let the negativity get to me a little.”
It’s mind-blowing that people think they can attack women online about their bodies (and also that anyone can find fault with Hadid’s particular figure), and the model makes it clear that she’s giving zero apologies for the success her sexy curves have brought: “Yes, I have abs, I have a butt, I have thighs, but I’m not asking for special treatment. I’m fitting into my sample sizes. Your mean comments don’t make me want to change my body.”
To haters, she has another perfect piece of advice: “If you don’t like it, don’t follow me, don’t watch me, cause I’m not going anywhere.” Yes! Virtual high fives to Gigi.
