Cylindrical Vases, Tuberose Candles, and Kashi GoLean: A Look at Kanye West’s and Jay Z’s Hotel Demands

Three $80 Mayan tuberose-scented candles for Jay Z, please.

Ah, stars: They’re just like us. Seriously—wouldn’t you storm out of a hotel room if the vases weren’t perfectly “cylindrical”? We’re not being hypothetical here; we’re referring to a new TMZ report that compares what masters of the universe Jay Z and Kanye West demand while on tour.

And while there are a few fit-for-a-diva requests (Jay loves his tuberose), these guys are not nearly as OTT as other celebrities we’ve read about, such as Lady Gaga, who reportedly requested—among other crazy things—a mannequin with “puffy pink pubic hair,” or Beyoncé, who supposedly insisted that all food and beverage be presented on a table with a clean white tablecloth and required “HEAVILY SEASONED” chicken legs with cayenne pepper.

Some highlights from Jay Z’s rider:

  • The rapper needs his spaces to be set at 71 degrees.
  • Hotel staff must provide 3 $80 Mayan tuberose-scented candles.
  • Jay has two big DON’Ts for staff: no vacuuming near his room and no asking for concert tickets if you want to “avoid embarrassment.”
  • Every room must be babyproofed for daughter Blue Ivy: All corners, sharp edges, and electrical outlets must be covered, and statues, lamps, and breakable objects must be removed.
  • Oh, and Blue drinks only organic whole milk.
  • Ace of Spades champagne, but the contract says he can’t be charged, since he owns the company.

From Kanye’s rider:

  • All vases in the room need to be cylindrical.
  • The room must have a Genelec 1031A speaker, which was discontinued 10 years ago.
  • Dental floss must be mint flavored.
  • There must be Kashi GoLean cereal.
  • All towels have to be black.
  • His booze order includes 13 bottles—including 3 bottles of Paradis Hennessy—and totals $3,200.

In our opinion, Kanye wins this one. Sure, Jay Z is a gem for insisting his daughter is safe and filled with calcium, but Yeezy knows the importance of a solid, high-fiber breakfast. And flossing.
