Drake has had his share of controversies. There is, after all, a reason why Kendrick Lamar used part of his Super Bowl Halftime Show to diss the rapper, and why he brought on stage two of Drake’s exes, SZA and Serena Williams.

In his 2024 song, “Not Like Us,” which won Song of the Year and Record of the Year at the 67th Grammy Awards and also won categories like Best Rap Song, Best Music Video, and Best Rap Performance, Lamar says about Drake. “Say, Drake, I hear you like ’em young. Tryna strike a chord and it’s probably A-minorrrrrr.” He was also wearing a silver “a” necklace while singing.

The lyrics are a diss towards Drake, who has denied he likes underage girls. However, the rapper has had a complicated history that involves communicating with underage girls, including Billie Eilish, Bella Harris, and of course, Millie Bobby Brown.

But what happened with Drake and Millie Bobby Brown, who became famous at a very young age because of Stranger Things? Were the two ever an item? When did they start communicating?

What happened with Drake and Millie Bobby Brown?

Millie Bobby Brown’s relationship with Drake has been controversial since it was first revealed—when Millie Bobby Brown was just 14 and Drake was 33, with accusations of grooming flowing in Drake’s direction. In an Access Hollywood interview during the Emmys in 2018, Millie Bobby Brown talked about her friendship with Drake, saying, “I love him. I met him in Australia and he’s honestly so fantastic and a great friend and a great role model.”

That all sounds above board, but the actress goes on to add, “You know we text – we just texted each other the other day and he was like “I miss you so much” and I was like “I miss you more”. He’s coming to Atlanta, so I’m definitely gonna go and see him and I’m so excited.”

Later on in the interview she also shares that he gives her advice about boys, but doesn’t reveal what that advice is, saying, “That stays in the text messages.”

At the SAG Awards in 2018, Brown discussed going to Drake’s dressing room and fangirling with one another. “Drake is my man!” she told  E! News. “I love Drake! He’s amazing. … This moment was amazing. I was in his dressing room with my whole family. He invited me to the show and was I like, ‘Just wanna say hi!’ and I was like, ‘Oh, my god.’ He was having a fangirl moment. Or a fanboy moment. I was having a fangirl moment. A whole moment. And I’ll never forget it. It was a Drake moment.”

The actress responded to the controversy on her Instagram stories, saying, per Teen Vogue, “Why u gotta make a lovely friendship ur headline? U guys are weird… For real. im lucky to have people in the business extend their time to help me further my career and offer their wisdom and guidance. Im very blessed to have amazing people in my life. U dont get to choose that for me. its nice to have people understand what i do. Now get back to talking about real problems in this world other than my friendships.”

The rapper also defended their friendship on the song “Another Late Night,” saying, “Weirdos in my comments talkin’ ’bout some Millie Bobby, look. Bring them jokes up to the gang, we get to really flockin’”

Drake and Brown’s friendship has been scrutinized once again since Kendrick Lamar’s allegations, with Lamar going as far as to call Drake a pervert in another song. Drake’s response came in a song titled “The Heart Part 6,” and he even brought up Mille Bobby Brown. “Drake is not a name that you gon’ see on no sex offender list, easy does it. You mentioning A minor … B sharp and tell the fans: who was it? … I never been with no one underage but now I understand why this the angle that you really mess with,” with the song also saying, “Only fuckin’ with Whitneys, not Millie Bobby Browns, I’d never look twice at no teenager.”

Millie Bobby Brown nor Drake has not publicly commented on their friendship in years. As for Drake, he is letting the lyrics speak for him. So is Kendrick Lamar.
