Millions of Spotify users have been affected by the streaming app’s outage. On the morning of April 16, 2025, the app was down on mobile and desktop, confusing music lovers across the globe.
For some people, the app would not load when it was opened, and for others, songs would skip throughout the song and not play. Hundreds of thousands of users complained about the outage on social media. One fan posted, “Spotify needs to get its act together cause what’s the alternative? listening to my own thoughts? absolutely not, that’s dangerous and i won’t have it.” Another viral post said, “Waking up to Spotify being down feels like waking up to a note saying your wife has left you and took the kids.”

While Spotify hasn’t specified why the app is down, the team is currently looking into the problem. As of 9 a.m., the Spotify staff assured that “Our tech folks are currently looking into this!”
Spotify also posted an update at 10:30 a.m. EST. “We are aware of the outage and working to resolve it as soon as possible,” the streaming company wrote on X. “The reports of this being a security hack are false.”
It’s not known when the outage will be fixed, but we’re hoping that it’s soon. However, music lovers could look towards other streaming sites like YouTube, SoundCloud, Amazon Music, or Apple Music to listen to their favorite tunes in the meantime.
