As one of the greatest musical artists of the 21st century (if not all time), Taylor Swift‘s name has been floated around the Super Bowl Halftime Show for years. But why hasn’t she done it yet? And could 2027 finally be the year?

Is Taylor Swift performing the 2027 Super Bowl Halftime Show?

Sorry, Swifties, but it doesn’t look like an Eras Halftime Show will happen in 2027. A source told Rob Shuter’s “Naughty But Nice” Substack in a post published on February 16 that Swift’s one condition to ever consider performing the Super Bowl Halftime Show is that her fiance, Travis Kelce, is no longer playing professional football.

Kelce, who got engaged to Swift in 2025, is the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. “She won’t perform and cheer him on in the same season,” the insider said. “If she does it, it’ll be after he retires.”

Further, sources told Shuter that Jay-Z, who produces the Super Bowl Halftime Show through his entertainment company Roc Nation, thinks Swift may be too obvious a choice to perform next year’s set. “He feels empowered,” an insider said. “He doesn’t want safe. He wants culture-defining.” The source continued, “Taylor equals ratings. But Jay isn’t chasing guaranteed anymore. He’s chasing impact.”

TORONTO, ONTARIO - NOVEMBER 14: EDITORIAL USE ONLY. NO STANDALONE PUBLICATION USE (NO SPECIAL INTEREST OR SINGLE ARTIST PUBLICATION USE; NO BOOK USE). Taylor Swift performs onstage during "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" at Rogers Centre on November 14, 2024 in Toronto, Ontario.

According to the source, one example of Jay-Z not chasing the guaranteed was with Bad Bunny, who performed the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show to record ratings, despite Turning Point USA producing a rival “All-American Halftime Show” on YouTube to deter viewers from Bad Bunny’s performance.

According to The New York Times, the “All-American Halftime Show” drew in 6.1 million concurrent viewers, while the stream had accumulated more than 20 million views by the day after the Super Bowl.

In comparison, more than 135 million viewers watched Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, according to CBS News, making it one of the most-watched sets of all time. “There were nerves,” a source told Shuter. “But Jay trusted the vision — and the numbers shut everyone up.” The source added that Jay-Z sees the Super Bowl Halftime Show as a “cultural megaphone” and “he wants to push it further.”

The report comes after Shuter reported in September 2025 that Swift turned down performing the 2026 Super Bowl after negotiations with the NFL fell through. “She wasn’t asking for favors, she was asking for respect,” the insider said. “Taylor knows her worth. She knows the kind of ratings she brings, the global attention she commands. She wasn’t about to hand that over for free.”

The source continued, “They expect the biggest artists in the world to do it for ‘exposure.’ Taylor Swift doesn’t need exposure. She wanted a deal that reflected her value… She doesn’t need the Super Bowl. But the Super Bowl absolutely needs her. Without Taylor, it’s just another halftime show.”
