Lady Gaga’s ‘Hold My Hand’ Celebrates ‘Life’s Heroes’—Read the Lyrics Here
With a poignant entrance to welcome in Super Bowl LIX, Lady Gaga performed her hit single “Hold My Hand.” She performed the song on the world-famous Bourbon Street to honor the victims of the New Orleans New Year’s attack.
The city is still recovering from a terrorist attack on New Year’s Day that killed 14 people and injured dozens. Tom Brady and Michael Strahan introduced the segment to pay tribute to the tragedy. Gaga played the piano and was joined by a full band and choir. Louisiana State Police troopers, New Orleans police officers, first responders, and law enforcement were also included in the tribute.
“Hold My Hand” was featured at the end of 2022’s film Top Gun: Maverick. The song was nominated for a Grammy and Golden Globe.

What’s the meaning behind Lady Gaga’s lyrics?
Lady Gaga spilled the tea on the song when it was first released.”When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick, I didn’t even realize the multiple layers it spanned across the film’s heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we’ve been living in,” she wrote. “I’ve been working on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it ours. I wanted to make music into a song where we share our deep need to both be understood and try to understand each other—a longing to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life’s heroes.”
She continued, “I’m so grateful to Tom [Cruise] and [composer] Hans [Zimmer] and Joe [director Joseph Kosinski] for this opportunity—and it’s been a beautiful experience working with them.
