It’s a show to remember. U2 Sphere tickets are the hottest in town after their Grammy performance. The Irish band has continuously kept extending their historic residency and now they’re leading up to the final days at the technologically advanced arena.
The monumental residency takes place at the newly-built Sphere at the Venetian Resort, which measures out to be 516 feet wide and 366 feet tall, with enough seating to accommodate 17,600 people. The venue is equipped with the highest-resolution LED screen on Earth, 10,000 vibrating “immersive seats,” unique environmental effects such as temperature control and chill breezes, and 164,000 speakers, Rolling Stone reported. Basically, it’s bound to be a show to remember.
Bono talked about the spectacle of performance in an interview with CBS News. “That’s what we started out wanting from the very beginning of the band is just to smash the fourth wall, get to our audience,” the singer told the site. The band collaborated with visual artists Marco Brambilla and Es Devlin “to create a truly immersive experience” for the residency.
As told by the residency’s name, the shows will mainly focus on the critically acclaimed 1991 LP, “Achtung Baby,” which was previously nominated for album of the year at the Grammy Awards in 1993. Fans will be able to hear hits like “Mysterious Ways,” “One” and “The Fly” live.
Bono and The Edge talked to Zane Lowe about how the performance and arena go hand in hand. “It’s not a line we just throw out, but the idea behind U2 is always to make the worst seat of the house, the best of the house. This changes the whole dynamic on that. Most music, over playing a theater, most music venues are sports venues. They’re stadiums, they’re arenas. They’re built for sports. They’re not built for music, they’re not built for art. So this building was built for immersive experiences in cinema and performance. It was not built for, you can’t come here and see an ice hockey game.”
The Edge added, “So, the sound has been designed as a priority from the beginning. Best sound, I’m sure we’ll ever hear. Really excited about it.”
