J.R. and Sandy The Ultimatum
Netflix

The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On Season 3 has brought it’s share of drama to Netflix screens. Which, in many ways, is exactly what Netflix wants out of its reality TV dating shows. The genre does, after all, thrive on drama, and the premise of The Ultimatum is about as messy as it gets. The show, after all, focuses on couples in which one partner is ready to get married, but the other one isn’t ready for that commitment yet.

How does the show help couples bridge that gap? Not through healthy communication or therapy, no. That’s boring. By offering them a chance to break up and proceed to date other people—chosen from the other couples also in the experiment—until they are ultimately matched up for a “trial marriage” for three weeks. Yes, you read that right. After those three weeks, everyone goes back to their official partner for an additional three weeks, so each person can then compare the two experiences.

Then, it’s time for a decision. Will the original couples decided to get engaged, break up, or do they want to try dating the person from their “trial marriage”? Literally anything is possible in a show that is often more dramatic than Love is Blind and Too Hot to Handle.

The couple made up of Nick and Sandy has been at the center of the drama in Season 3. When trial marriages started, Nick and Vanessa chose each other. So did Sandy and J.R. The problem, of course, is that Vanessa left the experiment with Dave, her original partner, leaving Nick by himself. And Sandy, well, she stayed in the experiment with J.R. and continued to get closer to him.

But, did Sandy and J.R. sleep together in The Ultimatum? How close did the two actually get? And will the two actually walk out of the experiment together or do Sandy and Nick still have a chance?

Did J.R. and Sandy sleep together on The Ultimatum Season 3?

The answer to that question is that it sure looks like it—but then again, Netflix usually isn’t shy about showing us when couples do sleep together (see Perfect Match, Netflix’s messiest favorite), and we haven’t gotten confirmation that they did, so that means they probably didn’t. Unless they’re saving something for the reunion, when it hurts the most, which is certainly possible, though unlikely.

Reality shows, however, aren’t above suggesting something happened. And the edit is clearly suggesting they slept together. In fact, the edit is suggesting they did very little else, if we’re being honest. But trusting reality TV edits is a fool’s errand at this point.

Plus, there’s the fact that Sandy has talked about the edit herself, discussing how it just focused on the physical aspect of her relationship with J.R., but indicating it went much deeper on her Instagram Stories. “Okay, I know it looks like there was absolutely nothing there but surface level, like stupid physical stuff, but we don’t get to see any of the hours. and hours of conversation that me and J.R. had.”

“We’re both Scorpios, obviously. We have very similar love languages, and we just had a lot of the same spiritual beliefs,” Sandy added.

What the two have admitted to is kissing. In fact, Sandy came clean about that quite early on, right when she ran into Nick on literally the first day of the trial marriages. Nick asked if she’d kissed J.R. and she said yes right away. Which is probably a point in her favor, because she was honest about the kiss. And both Sandy and J.R. seem to be trying in their relationships with Nick and Sandy when it came time to the changeover. Would they have done that after sleeping with each other? Would they have risked the relationships with their respective partners for sex?

The answer could, of course, be that they didn’t care in the moment, but it most likely isn’t. And if they did sleep together, we can count on Netflix not doing anything to protect their secret. Netflix’s number one goal is to put out the most entertaining product out there and they have proven that they believe the most dramatic product is the best one. So if there’s a chance for more drama, they will surely give it to us.
