Amy Schumer - Kinda Pregnant
Netflix

Amy Schumer’s Kinda Pregnant is now out on Netflix, and the movie has—of course, brought with it questions about Schumer’s real life, relationship, and kids. The Netflix comedy features a woman, Lainy, a high school teacher who starts feeling envious of her best friend’s pregnancy and decides to enact an elaborate ruse—donning a false pregnancy belly to simulate a pregnancy. Of course, that’s when she meets the love of her life and things get complicated.

Schumer, who’s full is Amy Beth Schumer, is renowned for her comedic work, particularly in movies like Trainwreck and Snatched. She doesn’t just star in Kinda Pregnant, she also co-wrote it alongside Julie Paiva, and serves as one of the producers of the movie, alongside Adam Sandler.

But is Schumer really pregnant in Kinda Pregnant? Was she pregnant for the filming of the movie? We’ve got an answer.

Is Amy Schumer Pregnant in Real Life From Kinda Pregnant?

The answer is no, Schumer isn’t pregnant and was not pregnant during the filming of Kinda Pregnant. The comedian, however, does have one kid—a five-year-old named Gene, who she shares with husband Chris Fischer. And she would love to grow her family, but she doesn’t have a timetable for that.

In August 2020 the actress shared that after trying IVF, she was considering other ways of having a kid, including surrogacy. “I decided that I can’t be pregnant ever again,” she said on Sunday Today With Willie Geist. “We did IVF and IVF was really tough on me. I don’t think I could ever do IVF again. … We thought about a surrogate. But I think we’re going to hold off for right now.”

A lot of the questions about Schumer’s possible pregnancy have to do with her noticeably puffier face, which can be a sign of pregnancy. However, there’s a medical reason for Schumer’s appearance, one she has talked about openly. The actress has Cushing’s Syndrome, a condition that occurs when too much cortisol stays inside the body for a long time.

Schumer revealed her diagnosis in Jessica Yellin’s “News Not Noise” newsletter and also shared that she learned of the condition as she was starting filming for Kinda Pregnant. “I learned I had this condition and that I had something called moon face. And I’m starring in a movie — and there’s a camera right in my face,” the actress said. The actress has also been open about the fact that she had a hysterectomy in 2021 after dealing with endometriosis.

In Kinda Pregnant there’s even a scene that makes fun of people’s assumptions about her Cushing’s Syndrome. Schumer has had to deal with a lot of vitriol about her appearance, which the actress seems to have channeled into jokes, considering she’s one of the credited writers for the movie. In the scene, a maternity store worker asks Schumer’s character how far along she is, and says, “Judging by your facial bloating, five months?”

“I’ll break your f—ing neck,” Schumer’s character says under her breath, only to correct herself and add, “I’ve been a freaking wreck.”

One thing about being a comedian is you’ll make fun of everything, even yourself. But there’s another truth about pregnancy that Schumer wanted to make sure she discussed. “It’s really hard,” she told Us Weekly at the New York City premiere of Kinda Pregnant. “And that it’s life-threatening.” Schumer might no have been aware of this when she got pregnant, but she hopes, thanks to the movie, a lot more women will.
