Warning: Love Is Blind Season 8 spoilers ahead. Love Is Blind Season 8 is now here, and as always the show brought its share of awkward moments, drama, love triangles, and even couples that seem to actually be in it for the right reasons. In the Netflix reality show, hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey, a group of singles agree to not just date in pods without ever seeing each other, but to commit to marrying each other before they’re allowed to see what the other person looks like.
It’s been a wild journey for the show so far, and yet a very successful one. Two couples remain from Season 1, two from Season 3, three from Season 4, and one couple from Season 5, Season 6, and Season 7 respectively. Not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but still much better than The Bachelor.

The pod episodes of Season 8 of the show, set in Minneapolis, Minnesota, showed us 5 new couples that chose to get engaged and continue on the journey towards marriage: Monica and Joey, Taylor and Daniel, Sara and Ben, Lauren and David, and Virginia and Devin. Monica and Joey were the first to get engaged and came out of the pods looking like the most solid couple. So, are Monica and Joey still together from Love is Blind Season 8?

We now know what the answer is now, as the marriage records indicate the two did not get married. And yet, in the beginning, it really seemed like these two were the one couple worth rooting for. They were the first couple to get engaged, and though that’s not a guarantee of anything, it has proven to be a very good sign for couples staying together on the show. Lauren and Cameron were the first to get engaged in Season 1, and Alexa and Brennon were the first to get engaged in Season 3.
The two also seemed to click from the beginning, with Monica sharing about her family from Chile and even showing Joey her dance moves—or as much as she could through a wall. Monica, who described herself as weird seemed to find a kindred spirit in Joey, and it helped that the two had very similar ideas about the importance of family.

Once they met up, they seemed to have a lot of fun together, laughing through their first meeting and chatting easily, with Monica telling Joey he looked like Tarzan. And even though Joey had no idea what finger he was supposed to put the ring on—at least he asked before doing wrong. But even that little hiccup didn’t seem to stop them, with Monica saying afterward, “Chef’s kiss, man,” about Joey.
Their first problem came when meeting Monica’s family, particularly Monica’s sister who did not seem to like Joey. But after spending more time with the two of them, even Monica’s sister seemed to see that the two of them worked together. And the wedding dress and wedding suit part of the experience went pretty well for both of them. However, during their final date, Monica does express some concerns about Joey’s love language, with the two having a conversation about what they want affection-wise and the fact that they have, at every point of the experience, felt more like really good friends than a romantic couple.
We don’t know what happens next, but this couple has felt both very in tune with each other and not really in love from the start. He asked for permission to kiss her during the reveal, which seemed to be something Monica really, really liked, but it was never really a spontaneous thing. During the second batch of episodes, we get a lot of them talking and seemingly on the same page about everything, but very little of them being affectionate with each other, like we see the other couples being. And one of the trailers for upcoming episodes even showed Monica saying “I’m more in it than he is,” and adding, “I want you to want me,” which is as bad an omen as there can possibly be. They make it to the altar, that we know. But it seems like one of them is going to say no and this story is not going to have a happy ending.
