Warning: Love Is Blind Season 8 spoilers ahead. Love Is Blind Season 8 has had a lot of drama. The first six episodes included love triangles that ended up in heartbreak and the bombshell revelation that Daniel might have known what Taylor looked like before their engagement. In the second batch of episodes, we learned Lauren might have had a boyfriend while filming the show. And then, on the third batch, Lauren and Dave finally broke up while Virginia and Devin couldn’t see eye to eye after she asked for a prenup.
The Netflix reality dating show, hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey, focuses on a group of singles who commit to dating in pods and not seeing each other until after they’ve committed to marriage. After that, the couple has only a couple of weeks to decide if they really want to go through with it, or if they’d rather part ways for good.

It’s a wild premise, but it’s worked. Two couples remain from Season 1, two from Season 3, three from Season 4, and one couple from Season 5, Season 6, and Season 7. That’s much better than shows like The Bachelor.
The show’s Season 8, set in Minneapolis, Minnesota, gave us 5 engaged couples: Monica and Joey, Taylor and Daniel, Sara and Ben, Lauren and David, and Virginia and Devin. And though everything was good while they were in Honduras, things between Lauren and Dave took a turn for the worse once they got back to “real life” and got access to their phones. What really happened between Lauren and Dave?

The answer is no. We knew this was the case since marriage records indicated the two had not gotten married, but the revelations from the second batch of episodes shed light on what exactly happened. Right after the two get their devices, Dave is told that Lauren had a boyfriend while they were filming the show. Dave confronts Lauren with this information, and what he gets in response is not all that comforting for him.
According to Lauren, she was indeed dating this person, casually—she calls it friends-with-benefits at one point—before she went on the show, but she was single and committed to the experiment when she went on Love is Blind. She does, however, say that even though it was clear that they were never together, she didn’t have an explicit conversation about “breaking up” with the guy before going on the show.

This doesn’t seem to be enough for Dave, who has actually met the guy a few times, and who was told by mutual friends and his sister that he and Lauren were hanging out just a few days before she went on Love is Blind. From there, it seems like there’s no going back for the two. Dave refuses to let Lauren meet with his family or friends to explain, and never really gives the relationship a chance. It all comes to a head in an empty movie theater, of all places. As Dave blames Lauren and her family for not understanding him, it’s clear Lauren has had enough. And Dave too, as he decides to walk away from her for good.
“There was definitely an element of sadness, but I do feel like you see the moment that I shift — when he starts to get mad at me and mad at my family,” Lauren told Us Weekly about the breakup scene. “The anger that came from him, I was done. I immediately knew we’re never getting past this. My husband would not speak to me like this. I hope that that comes across clear.”
Later, even other contestants, like Molly, call him out on how badly he handled things with Lauren, which leads him to apologize and ask for another chance. Lauren, however, says no. “There was an element of me being like, ‘I’ve been waiting weeks for you to say this.’ But I remember thinking, ‘I don’t fully believe this,’” she said to Us Weekly of his semi-apology. “ I think he shut down [during the experiment] and you see me say that at the group hang. I say, ‘I’ve been giving 150 percent, you’ve given me nothing.’”
