If you’d forgotten about Temptation Island until the words “Montoya, por favor” or “Montoya, please” entered our general consciousness, you were probably not alone. The reality TV dating show, which brings couples to an island to “test their love” has been around for a while. In fact, a version of Temptation Island, hosted by Mark L. Walberg, premiered on Fox in 2001 and later on USA Network.
Not only that, the show has spawned multiple international versions, in Argentina, Brazil, France, Italy, and Spain, among others. The whole premise of the show sees couples placed in different villas—men separated from women—to see if they can resist temptation by going on dates with eligible singles.
Does it make for stronger couples? Debatable. Just ask Montoya, full name José Carlos Montoya, and his girlfriend Anita. It all started as Anita had to watch footage of Montoya getting a lap dance and a striptease. Anita is clearly seen getting upset and later, starts flirting with another guy, Manuel. We then see Montoya shown footage of Anita in bed with Manuel, and it’s then that all hell breaks loose.
As we mentioned before, men and women are kept in separate villas. But Montoya doesn’t care, he runs from the men’s villa to the woman’s villa, with the show’s host running after him screaming “Montoya, por favor” or “Montoya, please.” The cameraman is also running and keeping up, as we get the footage. After he gets there, Anita comes out. It’s a thing. And boy, did it go viral. It spawned memes. It was everywhere.
But the question on everyone’s mind, of course, was, what happened to Montoya and Anita afterward? Could their relationship even recover from that? Are Montoya and Anita still together from Temptation Island Spain?

We’re probably not surprised to hear the answer is no. Anita confirmed to Spanish media that the two had broken up, saying, “Today we’re not together. It’s true that since our reunion, we’ve had contact, both good and bad. We still love each other, but it’s not healthy.” She said, visibly emotional. “I haven’t been able to forget him. I’m still in love with Montoya. I loved him very much, and it’s going to be very difficult for me to forget him.”
The two will now be participating in the Spanish version of Survivor, titled Survivor: No Man’s Land which will be filmed in Honduras. And though they are coming into it with baggage from their previous relationship, which ended in heartbreak for Anita, “I expect a cordial approach. I don’t come with anything planned, either. I prefer to let everything flow and see what happens. I think it’s something unpredictable. He and I love each other very much, but it’s not healthy, it’s not the right time, and I don’t know how we’ll react when we see each other.”
Ironically, another contestant in this new Survivor: No Man’s Land? Manuel, the guy Anita cheated on Montoya with back on Temptation Island. Let it never be said Spain doesn’t know how to create drama. “For me, leaving the Island alone was… I’m not okay,” Montoya had said about Anita after Temptation Island ended. “I don’t like seeing myself in that state; I’m all about joy, but seeing that… We were pure magic. And two days later, she hurt me so badly. When she did that, I didn’t want to accept it. It felt like a horror movie.”
