Money can’t buy trust in Netflix‘s Million Dollar Secret, but it certainly bought a stunning filming location. As twelve strangers navigate lies, alliances, and betrayal in the hunt for a million-dollar prize in this new reality competition, viewers can’t stop wondering about the luxurious estate that houses all this deception.
Here’s how the game works: Twelve strangers arrive at the estate and each receives a mysterious box in their room—but only one contains the coveted million dollars. The millionaire must keep their identity secret while completing hidden agendas assigned by host Peter Serafinowicz. Meanwhile, the other players participate in daily activities to gain strategic advantages in identifying the millionaire. At nightly elimination dinners, contestants try to vote out who they suspect has the money. If the millionaire is eliminated, the cash transfers to a new player. The millionaire can also abandon the money if they feel too much suspicion coming their way—making the game a constant psychological balancing act.
“This game is about lying and deceiving people, taking them into your confidence and pretending to be friends,” host Serafinowicz tells Netflix’s Tudum. But where exactly does all this manipulation take place?
Million Dollar Secret was filmed at a stunning lakeside estate called The Stag, officially known as Château Okanagan. This private chateau sits on 44 beautifully maintained acres in Kelowna, Canada, offering contestants a luxurious backdrop for their cutthroat gameplay.
The French-inspired villa rests on the shores of Okanagan Lake, providing breathtaking panoramic views that contrast sharply with the tension-filled atmosphere inside. According to 4filming, the property is known for its “French-inspired elegance” and “exclusive atmosphere”—perfectly fitting for a show where trust is currency and deception is the name of the game.
“The participants are in this crazy situation. They wake up, and they’re in this game 24/7,” Serafinowicz explained to Tudum. “The emotions and the tension… it’s all real. Everyone tries to keep it together, but some just can’t handle the pressure.”
What makes The Stag special is its exclusivity. The venue only accepts one reservation at a time, meaning the entire property is dedicated solely to whoever books it—in this case, a dozen competitors hunting for a million dollars.
The estate can accommodate up to 16 guests and comes with amenities that would make anyone’s jaw drop: offices, a multi-purpose ballroom, wine cellar, a separate beach house, games room, theatre, fitness room, and library. As if that weren’t enough, the property comes fully staffed with a chef, concierge, and valet services included.
This level of luxury creates the perfect pressure cooker environment where contestants must maintain their composure while constantly looking over their shoulders. With so many private spaces for secret conversations and strategy sessions, the chateau is definitely the ideal setting for a game where trust is impossible to find.
Million Dollar Secret is currently available to stream on Netflix.
