Spoilers ahead for The Bear Season 4. Her name is mentioned during many episodes of The Bear, so it’s natural for fans of Hulu/FX’s show to ask: who the f— is Francie Fak? During the latter half of the season, we finally know who the mysterious person Natalie “Sugar” Berzatto (Abby Elliott) has a vendetta against.
Francie’s name was first muttered in the iconic “Fishes” episode from Season 2. When Michelle (Sarah Paulson) asks where Francie is when she was absent at the Christmas party, her brother Neil Fak (Matty Matheson) explains the beef between Sugar and Francie. “She’s mad as hell. She’s angry ‘cause of the thing…” he replies.

Francie gets another callback in the early episodes of Season 4 when Natalie’s husband Pete receives a text from her. He mentions her name to Natalie and she immediately responds, “Francie can go f—!” The character makes her big debut in episode 7 of the fourth season with none other than Academy Award winner Brie Larson playing the famous Fak.
Within 5 (or 10, depending on who you ask) seconds of seeing each other at Tiff and Frank’s wedding, Francie and Carmy’s sister start bickering. Throughout the episode, the two seem to be arguing over different things and hurling insults at each other. It’s hard to decipher at first, but Natalie, at one point, says, “It wasn’t even your house!” She also mentioned that “whipped cream was everywhere,” and that Francie was really drunk, and “I didn’t know how to start the car.”
To which Francie replies, “It was raining, what did you want me to do?” She also argued that “there were cell phones back then,” which means the beef pretty much started decades ago. Pete comes in to say “Do I have to come in and separate you two ladies?” The two are in sync with their responses. Ted then comes in to say, “Pete’s in denial about these two hooking up.” Pete gets angered and says, “I’m not in denial. You two did not hook up.” To which the girls don’t really deny it, when they both say, “Well…”
Despite the audience not knowing what the actual problem is, the two seem to have the same problem when the family consoles Evie under the table, and the two women confess that they’re afraid of their friends betraying them. Francie almost goes on a rant about how long the story is before the family eases her down.
By the end of the second act of the episode, Francie and Sugar make up their differences. Francie makes the first move, and says , I think about you a lot. I miss you and I really hope that you’re happy, and that you have someone who loves you.
“I think about you too,” a touched Natalie replies. “I think about how smart you are. How hard you work. How funny you are. And I just think, ‘Holy sh*t, she’s probably doing something great.’”
“Francie, you wanna maybe try and be friends?” Natalie asks her friend. When Francie responds, “Yeah,” Natalie playfully asks, “And you won’t f-ck me over?” To which her former-turned-now friend replies, “No, I will not f*ck you over Natalie,”
