She’s back on Bachelor in Paradise for a second shot at love, but longtime Bachelor Nation fans know that Jill Chin once found a match with Jacob Rapini on Bachelor in Paradise Season 8, and the two even took their relationship to the real world before mysteriously calling it quits. So what happened? Jill hinted that the “trust” wasn’t there.
Jill, a contestant from The Bachelor Season 26 with Clayton Echard, and Jacob, a fan favorite from The Bachelorette Season 19 with Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia, met on Bachelor in Paradise Season 8. They broke up in the middle of the season before reuniting at the Bachelor in Paradise Season 8 reunion, where Jacob asked Jill to give their relationship another try, which she agreed to. Jacob and Jill hard launched their relationship on Instagram after the reunion.
“It turns out your beautiful personality truly is right for me🥰😅 I’m honored that I can call you mine after going through all the chaos that we had to endure,” Jacob captioned a photo of him and Jill. “After rekindling what was a 3 day relationship on the beach we both realized we’re right for each other. You have really impressed me and made me extremely happy these past few weeks. I’m so looking forward to spending some quality time with you on the east coast and you here in the west. Glad you stayed open to us💖😊💙 @jillchin_”
However, a week later, news broke that Jill and Jacob had already split. So what went wrong?
Why did Jill and Jacob break up after Bachelor in Paradise?
Jill announced that she and Jacob had broken up in an interview on the “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation” podcast a week after the Bachelor in Paradise Season 8 finale aired in November 2022. said, “Unfortunately, we did make it to the hard launch on Instagram phase, but then swiftly after that, it ended. I had to do what was best for myself. There is just a line with standards for yourself that you just can’t allow people to cross. I don’t have any ill will and I don’t wish anything bad for Jacob, it just didn’t work out,” Jill said confirming that she was the one to break up with Jacob.
As for the reason for their split, Jill claimed that “trust had been broken” in her and Jacob’s relationship a week after they hard launched on Instagram. “Everyone will say that it’s only been a week, but we had been talking again since around three weeks before the reunion aired,” she said. “After our one-on-one aired, we started catching feelings again and we started talking more and more. Then around three weeks before the reunion, we decided we wanted to give it another shot, so we decided to talk and try it out. Then he made that grand gesture at the reunion, which solidified things.”
She continued, “It felt like my fairy-tale moment even though I didn’t want to make it public. I just wanted to keep everything private, but he made that gesture at the reunion and we decided to move forward. We had planned a trip to Rhode Island. It was going to be really cute. But then everything fell through immediately after he hard launched it.”
Jill went on to confirm that she ended things with Jacob after she realized that their long-distance relationship wouldn’t work without trust or communication. Jacob is from Sonora, California, while Jill is from Scituate, Rhode Island. “I will leave it at this — the trust had been broken and in a long-distance relationship, you need communication and trust and we had neither of those things,” she said.
She continued, “I don’t want to say I’m embarrassed, but unfortunately the hard launch happened and it is what it is. Now I just have to speak about it. I never wanted the whole Notes app request for privacy. It’s so lame. I don’t want to do that. It is what it is. We’re going to move on. I don’t wish any ill will towards Jacob. I think in the future he can be a good partner to somebody if he puts in the work.”
Three years after her breakup with Jacob, Jill returned to Bachelor in Paradise for Season 10.
