Almost three years after its first season, Wednesday returned to Netflix on Wednesday, August 6, with a new mystery for protagonist and teenage psychic Wednesday Addams to investigate in Jericho. But while the majority of Nevermore Academy’s supernatural teens returned for the Netflix show’s second season, there was one face missing: Xavier Dolan, a psychic student at Nevermore who can see visions through dreams and make his art come to life. So what happened to Xavier? His exit has been a long time coming.

Nevermore Academy’s new principal, Barry Dort, revealed in Wednesday Season 2, Episode 1, “Here We Woe Again,” that Xavier Thorpe left the school because he had transferred to Reichenbach Academy in Switzerland. Xavier’s move also meant that his dad, Vincent Thorpe, also quit his role as chairperson for Nevermore Academy’s gala fundraising committee, which left an opening for Wednesday’s mom, Morticia Addams, to replace him.
“Vincent Thorpe chaired the last three years,” Principal Dort, who replaced Larissa Weems after her death in Season 1, said. “But after Xavier was falsely accused of murder, he pulled his son and his endowment from Nevermore.” Principal Dort’s statement was in reference to Vincent’s bad blood with Nevermore after Xavier was mistaken as the killer Hyde in Wednesday Season 1.

While Xavier didn’t make an appearance in Season 2, he did send Wednesday a goodbye letter, along with a portrait of a one-eyed crow that’s been seen flying around Jericho, the town where the series is set.
“I tried texting, but I guess you lost the phone I gave you,” Wednesday’s roommate Enid read from the letter in their dorm room. “Consider this my goodbye gift. The image suddenly flashed in my head. Don’t ask me how I know or what it means, but it’s connected to you, I’m sure. Who’s Wednesday Addams without a mystery to solve, right?”

White, who played Xavier in Wednesday Season 1, announced he was leaving the series in an Instagram Story in May 2024. “I had so much fun working on this show. I can’t wait to watch season 2 :),” he wrote. “Much love.” Jamie McShane, who played Sheriff Donovan Galpin, and Naomi J Ogawa, who played Yoko Tanaka, also left the series as series regulars, though McShane did return as a guest star for Season 2 to wrap up his storyline after Sheriff Galpin’s son, Tyler Galpin, was revealed to be the Hyde.
White’s exit from Wednesday came after he was accused of sending photos to minors, using a racial slur as part of an acting performance, and throwing parties “to explicitly invite women they thought were hot so they could get them drunk and high enough to have sex with them, and lie about being high and drunk as well” in a X thread by user @milkievich in January 2023.
After the thread went viral, fans called on Netflix to remove White from Wednesday Season 2, as well as trended the hashtag #cancelpercy. White, who disabled his Instagram comments in response to the accusations, denied the allegations in a since-deleted post on X in June 2023.
“Hey everyone. There’s something I need to clarify. Earlier this year, somebody I’ve never met started a campaign of misinformation about me online. Because of this, my family has been doxed, and my friends have received death threats,” White wrote. “Underage photos of me were used, and examples of me acting in character were presented as hateful. My friend Jane was falsely portrayed as a victim, and her attempts to set the record straight have been ignored. She gave me permission to include her in this message. The rumors are false.”
He continued, “I can’t accept the portrayal of me as someone bigoted or criminally negligent of people’s safety. These are the kind of baseless, harmful claims that can create mistrust towards victims. It’s very distressing to know that this misinformation has upset people. I’m really thankful for everyone who’s stood by me and helped share the facts. Harassment of my family, friends, and coworkers needs to stop, please. Thank you for taking the time to read this.”
Ortega, who plays Wednesday Addams, was asked about White’s scandal in an interview with Vanity Fair in August 2024, in which she called his exit from the series a “weird redirect.” “But we’re introducing so many different characters that I think it kind of will get lost,” she said at the time, adding that Xavier’s exit from Nevermore left Wednesday feeling “slightly askew” in Season 2.
Showrunner Alfred Gough and Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria also confirmed in a statement in July 2025 that there was a Wednesday spinoff in the works after the success of the original show. “It’s something we’re definitely noodling. There are other characters we can look at,” Gough said, while Bajaria added, “There’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.”
Wednesday streams on Netflix.
