Her story was one of the most shocking moments of the NBC reality show. Tracey Yukich opened up about the terrifying moment when she collapsed on The Biggest Loser in the new Netflix documentary. Fit for TV.
Yukich starred in Season 8 of the weight loss competition show. “The idea of being on The Biggest Loser, I felt like … maybe it would fix my marriage, maybe it would fix me,” she says about her intentions for being on the show. “Maybe it would make me a better mom, a better friend.”
“I felt like my weight and everything about it was something that constantly was bringing me down,” she says. “I wanted to change my life and I do feel like at that time that it was, like, my only hope.”
For the first episode, the contestants had to run a mile and cross the finish line in order to qualify for the show. Yukich had a strong start but collapsed on the beach where she had to be medevaced. “I just felt like I was floating,” Yukich said in the documentary while admitting she doesn’t “remember a lot” from the incident. “And then my grandpa was there and then I saw darkness but then I saw light, so I knew I died that day.”
Yukich revealed she was diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis and the condition made her feel like “your body’s way of saying ‘I’m going to shut down on you.'”
Tracey Yukich currently lives in Texas with her second husband and their blended family. When asked if she would go back on the show, she said that the question was “impossible to answer.” “I definitely think that if I hadn’t have gone on the show and experienced everything that I did experience I would have never had the strength to make some serious changes in my life,” she said. She also ran the Boston Marathon together with Dr. Robert Huizenga.
After the documentary aired on Netflix, Yukich faced some backlash from trolls online. But her co-star Danny Cahill, who won Season 8, came to her rescue. “Please remember; the people some thought were evil people had things in their life that no one knew were going on, and were fighting to stay there,: he wrote on Facebook. “Tracey wasn’t mean, she was FIGHTING FOR HER LIFE! She was (and is) a hero, especially to me! Be sure to watch it soon! And keep an open mind when you do!!”
Knowing that he had her back, Tracey responded to the support. “I love you, Danny Cahill-and you know I would never say those words if they weren’t true,” she wrote on Facebook. I’m beyond grateful that we took on this project together. It’s given us a place to be real—to share our stories, our anxieties, our thoughts, and to let go of control while trusting the process. Through it all, your friendship has been an anchor, and Darci Cahill friendship just as much. The way you’ve supported me during this season has touched my heart in ways that words can’t fully capture. I will always carry that with me, you are a true hero and someone to admire, keep pushing forward my friend-you got this, you always have!!!!
