Spoilers ahead for The Summer I Turned Pretty. Summer is finally over…or is it? The anticipated finale of The Summer I Turned Pretty just aired, and whether you liked who Belly ended up with, we’re sad to see the Prime Video series end.
The third season of the teen drama is based on the third book of The Summer I Turned Pretty series, called We’ll Always Have Summer. Series creator and writer Jenny Han previously expressed that her series didn’t have to follow the premise of the books she wrote.

“If you knew exactly what was going to happen, it wouldn’t be a very satisfying show-watching experience,” Han told Time in 2023. “Part of the enjoyment of watching TV or movies is that you don’t know. I am always trying to preserve the audience experience—my aim is to surprise and delight and to give the fans the best possible story.”
According to the showrunner, director, and creator of The Summer I Turned Pretty Jenny Han. the show will end with Season 3. “But yeah, three books, three seasons. It feels right to me,” she told Entertainment Weekly in May. Variety announced that Amazon Studios officially greenlit a feature film that will conclude the story of the hit YA series.
Right before the credits rolled for the season finale, she wrote a handwritten letter that doesn’t close the door on Cousins forever.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love you’ve shown The Summer I Turned Pretty all these years,” she wrote. “Whether you’ve been with Belly since the very first book or joined us with the show I’m so grateful you’ve made Belly’s story part of your summer.”
Han continued, “We put our whole hearts into this show and we’re so thankful to you for coming along with us on the ride. Maybe we’ll meet again one summer in Cousins. Until then —”
The finale fast-forwards a year later to Belly’s journey in Paris after she left Jeremiah’s wedding. “There is so much that is going to surprise fans about how much we’re showing of Belly in Paris and the whole ending,” Jenny told Entertainment Weekly in September. “It’s not just an epilogue.” This part of the show did not follow the book at all.
“I kept adding more and more to the last scripts the longer I was in Paris, because I kept thinking of more that needed to be included,” she explained about how it strayed away from the source material. “There’s just so much to living on your own, for the first time, in a foreign place, and that’s important for Belly as she’s growing up.”
Chris Briney, who plays Conrad, told Elite Daily that they haven’t even conceptualized an idea of a spin-off. “I feel like it’s too early to talk about that. We haven’t even finished yet. Our last season hasn’t come out,” he said in May. “I’d love to see what Jenny’s idea would be. I feel like she’s particular. She’s specific about what she wants to do, so if she wanted to do it, I’m sure there would be reason to.”
A spinoff of The Summer I Turned Pretty wouldn’t be too far off from the Jenny Han cinematic universe. When Netflix’s To All the Boys... film series ended, Lara Jean Covey’s sister Kitty got her own spin-off TV series XO, Kitty, which chronicles her love journey in Seoul, South Korea. The Netflix series isn’t based on Han’s written material or books, so we’re holding out hope for another project for TSITP!
