He’s back at the villa for Love Island Games Season 2, but why did Josh and Shannon break up from Love Island USA in the first place? Keep reading for the emotional reason behind their split.
Josh Goldstein and Shannon St. Clair met on Love Island USA Season 3 in 2021. They coupled up on Day 1 and stayed together until Day 31 when they quit together after the death of Josh’s sister, Lindsey. “My sister was the reason that I was on the show,” Josh said in an Instagram video with Shannon after leaving Love Island USA. “She was one of my best friends and the reason that I met this beautiful lady right here.”

Josh, continued, “It’s just been an unbelievable experience. I know that it brought my sister joy to watch us grow our relationship and really take it to the outside world so I appreciate everybody for supporting us throughout the last couple of weeks and we just wanted to let you know we made it back to Massachusetts and we’re going to be OK. It’s been a long journey but we’re going to be OK.”
Shannon, for her part, added, “I also wanted to say we love you guys and Lindsey was a huge fan of the show and would always watch her little brother and support him and us as a couple. She’s the reason why we are together where we are right now. She’s the one who signed Josh up for the show. We always feel like everything happens for a reason and we owe that all to Lindsey.”
After leaving Love Island USA together, Josh and Shannon stayed together for less than a year before announcing their split in June 2022. So why did Josh and Shannon break up from Love Island USA? Read on for their reason.

In a joint Instagram post announcing their split, Josh and Shannon explained that they had broken up because they wanted to live in separate states. “As you guys know, Shannon has been in PA the last few weeks supporting her sister with the birth of her niece. She’s been figuring out her next career move, and has always had a passion for skincare,” the statement read. “Although she loves FL, she has decided to go back to school to become an esthetician and be closer to the baby.”
After Love Island USA Season 3, Shannon had relocated from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Florida, where Josh lives, to be closer to him. “It has always been a dream of his to live in FL and start his own business, and he’s doing just that! We love this life we’ve built together, but sometimes timing is everything,” the statement continued. “It certainly has been hard being apart, and we’ve been trying to take the right steps to further both of our careers. We have created so many memories and achievements together over this past year. From love to tragedy and everything in between, we have been by each other’s side with support, friendship, and the greatest love for each other that words cannot even begin to describe. No one can take that away from us.”
Josh and Shannon ended their statement by confirming that they remain friends. “We will always love and care for one another and remain friends, but unfortunately at this time we’ve made the decision to go our separate ways,” the statement read. “There is no bad blood between us, the people closest to us know we rarely had arguments. We are literally best friends, so we both want to see each other succeed and be happy, always.”
The statement concluded: “We will continue to support one another and thrive independently, and we encourage you all to do the same. … We don’t know what the future holds, and this may not be goodbye forever, but for now, it’s best for both of us ❤️.”
