On October 19, 2025, thieves disguised as construction workers stole eight pieces of French Crown Jewels valued at €88 million from the Louvre Museum in Paris, France, in a scheme now known as the Louvre Heist. The heist was covered by hundreds of news publications around the world, but it wasn’t until now that it was explored in a documentary.

The Louvre Heist: Minute by Minute documentary follows the seven-minute scheme that was the first art theft at the Louvre since the painting Le chemin de Sèvres was stolen in 1998. The documentary is by Pioneer Productions, the same company behind popular documentaries like Hulu’s Mother Undercover and National Geographic’s Wild In the Womb: Animal Babies.

The documentary includes exclusive witness testimony, expert forensic analysis, and detailed graphic reconstructions that follow the moment the thieves infiltrated the Louvre’s perimeter and disappeared with the priceless jewels. The feature, which also features witnesses, criminologists, former security officials, and art historians, explores theories as to why the thieves targeted the Apollo’s Gallery at the Louvre, specifically, who was behind the plan, and which fatal flaws in the scheme led to two suspects’ arrests.

“This cinematic-level heist stunned the world, and we’re breaking it down minute by minute,” Howard Lee, Chief Creative Officer of US Networks and President of Discovery Networks, said in a statement. “With exclusive footage and real-time storytelling, this special delivers the kind of jaw-dropping, edge-of-your-seat experience Discovery does best.”
