If you’ve been following the controversy around the White House’s Christmas decorations, you may want to know how to watch HGTV’s White House Christmas special live to see behind the scenes of the landmark’s decorative designs.
White House Christmas is a documentary that follows hundreds of volunteers from across the United States as they decorate the White House for Christmas in just 72 hours. The special also documents the volunteers as they bring First Lady Melania Trump‘s theme of “Home Is Where the Heart Is”—which is meant to highlight the American spirit of “generosity, patriotism and gratitude—to life for the White House’s 2025 holiday decor.
The special comes after Melania faced backlash for her Christmas decorations during the first Trump administration, when she was caught on an audio recording in 2018 seeming annoyed that the responsibility to decorate the White House for the holidays was assigned to her. “Who gives a fuck about Christmas stuff and decoration?” she said in the clip published by CNN.
Fast forward to 2025, and Melania is back to decorating the White House for Christmas. Read on for how to watch HGTV’s behind-the-scenes special.
