The Pitt
HBO.

The Pitt has been described as one of the most realistic medical dramas in television history, but what real day was Season 1 set on?

The Pitt is HBO’s medical procedural drama following a group of nurses and doctors as they work a single 15-hour shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center in Pennsylvania. Compared to other medical dramas, each season of The Pitt represents one day, with Season 2 taking place on July 4. Each episode represents one hour of that shift. Though HBO confirmed that July 4 was the date of Season 2, there hasn’t been such a confirmation for Season 1. But, considering clues given by various characters throughout the first season, fans have narrowed down the date for Season 1’s setting and it makes total sense.

What day was The Pitt Season 1?

While The Pitt hasn’t confirmed what day Season 1 took place, the most popular theory is that the season was set on September 5, 2025. It’s believed that Season 1 took place in 2025 because Dr. Montgomery Adamson died in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nurse Dana Evans also mentions in Season 1 that Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch hadn’t worked the date of Dr. Adamson’s death for four years, meaning that if Adamson died during the pandemic in 2020, Robby wouldn’t have worked the date until 2025 after taking off the date in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

It’s also believed that Season 1 is set in September 2025 because Kristi Wheeler, a teenage pregnancy patient at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, is 11 weeks pregnant and gives late June as the date of her last period, which would mean that Season 1 would take place around the time of the first half of September. As for the specific date, fans believe that September 5, 2025, is the day Season 1 is set because when Dr. Melissa “Mel” King picks up her sister, Becca, in Season 1, she mentions that they’re supposed to get dinner on Fridays. It also makes sense for the PittFest, the fictional music festival a shooting happens at, would happen on a Friday or a weekend. A weekend, however, wouldn’t be possible because Jake Malloy’s mom, Dr. Robby’s quasi stepson, skips school for the festival, which means it has to be a weekday.

That means that The Pitt Season 1 would have to be set on a Friday in early September, leaving September 5 or September 12 as the only options. September 12, however, was ruled out because Dr. Frank Langdon mentions in Season 1 that the day of his shift was an odd-numbered day.

What day is The Pitt Season 2?

Unlike Season 1, HBO confirmed that The Pitt Season 1 took place on July 4, with around 10 months passing between Season 1 and 2 (which would also confirm that Season 1 was set in September.) Like the first season, each episode of Season 2 represents one hour of a day shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.

The Pitt is available to stream on Max.
