The Golden Bachelor Gerry & Theresa’s Honeymoon Plans Are A Throwback To Their 1st Date

On their first date, they talked about somewhere they would like to travel together. Now, after their wedding, Gerry and Theresa’s honeymoon plans are a throwback to that date. How cute. Gerry reflected on the season 1 finale in an interview with People: “What I reminded myself of frequently, is that I’m there to find the one person that’s right for me,” Gerry said. “It boiled down to that one important question: Who’s the one woman I can’t live without?”

The Golden Bachelor is a spin-off of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette featuring single men and women aged 65 and older. “Some of the casting interviews we got, they were just so touching,” ABC unscripted executive Rob Mill told Variety in 2020 about why the network wanted to create The Golden Bachelor.

Gerry Turner, a 72-year-old restaurant owner from Indiana, was announced as the Season 1 Golden Bachelor on Good Morning America in July 2023. “It’s never too late to fall in love again,” he said. Gerry is a father, grandfather, and widower. He married his wife and high school sweetheart, Toni, in 1974. They share two daughters, Angie and Jenny, and two granddaughters, Charlee and Payton. Gerry and Toni were married for 43 years until her death from an illness in 2017, six weeks after her retirement. “She got robbed,” Gerry told Good Morning America about Toni. “Every day that goes by, that’s the thought I have.”

Theresa credited her daughter Jen for planning most of her and Gerry’s wedding. “She’s a lifesaver,” she said. “There’s so many decisions that had to be made, and in some instances, she would get the vision board together for me or she would get ideas of dresses and veils and rings.” She continued, “She just keeps feeding me great things and I’m saying, ‘Yeah, that, that, that.'” Seriously – I don’t know if there would be a wedding if she wasn’t involved.”

After their wedding, everyone wants to know what Gerry and Theresa’s honeymoon plans are and, as mentioned, it’s a throwback to their first date.

Gerry and Theresa’s honeymoon plans

Gerry and Theresa’s honeymoon plan is a trip to Italy. Host Jesse Palmer surprised Gerry and Theresa by revealing that they would be embarking on a romantic getaway to Europe in the season one finale, courtesy of ABC.

Gerry responded: “We can use that as our honeymoon trip because we are going to get married. We’re going to do it as quickly as we can because, at our age, we don’t have a lot of time to waste. As quickly as we can put together a wedding plan, we’re getting married.” Indeed, during their first date on The Golden Bachelor, Theresa said they should learn Italian together and take a trip to Italy. Gerry loved the idea, so it’s cute that that moment has come full circle.

With regards to specifics, Gerry stayed mum in an interview with People. “I don’t want to let that out,” he said. “Then all of a sudden people will be looking for that and asking questions and so forth. There’s a little bit of anonymity that I’m looking forward to when things settle down, and we can just enjoy each other’s company without some of the glitz and glamor that’s been thrown our way lately.”

“There’s been so much going on since the show ended,” Theresa said. “After the wedding, we’re going to be able to sit together and really decide, because it’s been a whirlwind. There will be plans for trips and looking for homes and going to Italy, so there’ll be so much to look forward to.”

Gerry, for his part, told People that he was happy to turn over the responsibilities of wedding planning to Theresa and Jen. “I can just hear the joy in her voice when I talk to her and she’s talking about whether it’s a dress or a cake or flowers or whatever it is,” he said. “It makes me so happy that she’s having this much of a good time with it. It’s like, what could be more fun?”

Theresa also confirmed that most of her and Gerry’s children and grandchildren will have roles in the Golden Wedding. “All of my six grandsons will be involved and we want to have Henry as the ring bearer,” Theresa said. “And we’re going to have my sisters — they don’t know this — as flower girls. They’re older. They should be thrilled with that.”

The Golden Wedding officiator is Susan Noles, a contestant from The Golden Bachelor Season 1 who was sent home in Week 5. Susan announced she was officiating Gerry and Theresa’s wedding in an Instagram post on January 2, 2024. “I guess the secret is out! I’m officiating THE GOLDEN WEDDING 💒 and I’m just beyond excited!! @goldenbachabc,” she captioned an Instagram photo of her, Theresa, and Gerry. Theresa commented, “We couldn’t be more thrilled to have you officiate for us, Susan!!! Love you so much for being the wonderful woman you are and for doing this for us!!! We cannot wait!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️.”

The full Golden Wedding guest list won’t be known until the special airs on January 4, 2024. However, there are several of Gerry’s Golden Bachelor contestants who have confirmed to be attending the nuptials. Along With Susan Noles, who is officiating Gerry and Theresa’s wedding, Faith Martin, Ellen Goltzer, and Sandra Mason will also be attending the nuptials, as confirmed in a preview of the wedding special shared on Susan’s Instagram.

Gerry’s Golden Bachelor runner-up, Leslie Fhima, is also confirmed to be attending the wedding. Leslie confirmed her attendance in an Instagram Story on January 3, 2024, in which she also explained that she had to undergo surprise surgery following her 65th birthday on December 28, 2023. “I know that everyone was just curious to know what I did on my birthday,” she said in a video on her Instagram stories. “I spent it in the hospital. Yes, I had a bowl blockage, severe cramping, came into the ER.” She continued, “I’m definitely on the mend. I’m feeling so much better, that now I get to go to the wedding. I can’t wait to support Gerry and Theresa on their beautiful day. I know it’s going to be really, really amazing.”

The Golden Wedding airs on Thursday, January 4, at 8 p.m. on ABC. Here’s how to watch it for free.
